#491 D&RGW BLW 2-8-2 K-37 N XL L M4

The Denver and Rio Grande Western K-37 is a class of 2-8-2 "Mikado" type narrow-gauge steam locomotives built by the D&RGW Burnham Shops. They were made by converting 10 standard gauge C-41 Consolidation locomotives onto new narrow gauge frames.

The locomotives are of outside-frame design, with the driving wheels placed between the two chassis frames which support the boiler, but with the cylinders, driving rods, counterweights and valve gear on the outside. This general arrangement is shared more…

EMD 8-710G3A-T2 LATE EXH T N XL L M4

The EMD GP22ECO is a 2,150 hp (1,600 kW) B-B road switcher diesel-electric locomotive rebuilt by Electro-Motive Diesel and Norfolk Southern's Juniata Shops. Initially EMD built two GP22ECO demonstrators, one based on a GP9 and one based on a GP40,[1] but thus far all orders have been for conversions based on EMD GP40 and EMD GP40-2 series locomotives. The rebuild involves replacing the existing prime mover with an EPA Tier-II-compliant turbocharged V8 710G3A, with Electronic fuel injection. The more…

EMD 16-567C 2EXH NT N XL L M4

The 567 prime mover is a line of medium-speed diesel engines manufactured by GM Electro-Motive Division. They were used in many EMD locomotives from 1938-1966 when it was replaced by the EMD 645. The 567 proved to be exceptionally successful in passenger, switching, freight, marine and stationary services. The 16 cylinder 567C variation could be found in the following locomotives:

FP7, FP9, FL9, FT, F2, F3, F7, F9, GP7, GP8, GP9, GP10, GP11, BL2, GP18, GP28, SD7, SD9, SD18

EMD 16-567B 2EXH NT N XL L M4

The EMD 567 is a line of large medium-speed diesel engines built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division. The EMD 567 16cyl Prime Mover was one of the most widely used Prime Movers in the world and was used from 1938 until its replacement n 1966. From F-Units to Geeps this popular power house can still be found in many locomotives riding the rails today. Alle 567 engines are two-stroke V-engines with an angle of 45° between cylinder banks, a bore of 8,5 in (216mm) and a stroke of 10 in more…

GE 16-7FDL16Y2 LATE EXH N XL L M4

In the Mid 1980s GE changed it's 16cyl FDL design to include a different exhaust silencer, a new electric compressor often known as the "Whoop compressor" and changed some of the electronics of their locomotives. These differences among a few other led to a distinct change in the sounds from the GE 16cyl FDL often found from the U25Bs on through the Dash-7 series of the Locomotives.

Keeping in tradition with GE's locomotive series nicknames beginning with the "Dash 7" of the 1970s, the C44-9W more…

EMD 16-645E3B LATE EXH T N XL L M4

The EMD 645 series engine was an evolution of the earlier 567 series and a precursor to the later 710 series. When the 645 prime mover entered production in 1965, a large series of new locomotive models were introduced. The turbocharged version was used in EMD's 40 Series (GP40, SD40 and SD45) in 3,000 horsepower (2,200 kW), sixteen-cylinder form and in 3,600 horsepower (2,700 kW), twenty-cylinder form. EMD also introduced the Roots-blown 38 Series (GP38, SD38) and turbocharged, twelve-cylinder more…

EMD 12-710G3A LATE EXH T N XL L M4

The EMD GP59 is a 4-axle diesel road switcher locomotive model built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between 1985 and 1989. Power was provided by a 12-cylinder EMD 710G3A diesel engine, which could produce 3,000 horsepower (2,200 kW). This locomotive shared the same common frame with the EMD GP60, giving it an overall length of 59 feet 9 inches (18.21 m). It featured a 3,700-US-gallon (14,000 l; 3,100 imp gal) fuel tank. 36 examples of this locomotive were built including three more…

GE 16-FDL16 N XL L M4

The GE FDL-16 prime mover was first used in 1959 in the General Electric U25B locomotive. Over the years little changed in terms of sound until the "Dash-8" series of GE locomotives was introduced. Known for their throaty chug and shaft driven compressor (rather than the more modern “Whoop” electric compressor) , the following GE locomotives used the early 16cyl FDL prime mover:

U25B, U28B, U30B, U33B, U36B, U25C, U28C, U28CG, U30C, U30CG, P30CH, U34CH, U33C, U36C, B30-7, B36-7, C30-7, C36-7 more…

FM 38D-6 N XL L M4

The FM H-12-44 was a yard switcher produced by Fairbanks-Morse from May, 1950–March, 1961. The units featured a 1,200-horsepower (890 kW), six-cylinder opposed piston engine prime mover, and were configured in a B-B wheel arrangement mounted atop a pair of two-axle AAR Type-A switcher trucks, with all axles powered and geared for a top speed of 60 miles per hour (97 km/h).

A total of 303 units were built for American railroads, 30 were manufactured (between August 1951 to June 1956) by the more…
