To increase frequency on the meter-gauge main network, the Rhaetian Railway RhB ordered 56 units of the four-car ABe 4/16 multiple unit from Stadler. The four electric traction motors installed in one of the end cars produce a total of 1400 kW and accelerate the trains to a design speed of 120 km/h. In the late 1930s the German DRG wanted to increase the weight of freight trains. Therefor six axle E94 had been developed. During WWII 146 samples were built. The six motor locos develop 3300 kW and reach a maximum speed of 90 km/h. After the war 44 locos were overtaken by Austrian Railway OEBB, another 23 were refitted by DR of German Democratic Republic of Germany. Class 59 N XL L M4

Only 15 examples of the Class 59 were built for various British freight companies. The construction logistics company Foster Yeoman took over one example in 1997 and had it converted for use in Germany. In 1999 HHPI took over the machine. Technically, the Class 59 with its 2500 kW EMD 16-cylinder 2-stroke diesel engine is a close relative of the US bestseller SD40-2. The maximum speed is 97 km/h, five locomotives are approved for 120 km/h. There is no train heating system on board.

Class 56 N XL L M4

Between 1976 and 1984, British Rail had 135 examples of the six-axle class 56 freight locomotive built. The final production of the first 30 of the series created according to BR plans was carried out with sub-assemblies in Romania at Electroputere. The following locomotives were assembled in England. The classes (BR) 215 and 218 diesel locomotives of the Western German Railway (DB) are used in mixed service since 1968.

218 101 to 194, 218 242 to 288 were equipped with a 12 cylinder 4 stroke main Diesel from MAN that was later called MTU 12 V 956 TB10 that generates 2500 HP. The 2800 HP version of this motor is called MTU 12 V 956 TB11.

In 1964 series production of dieselhydraulic main line loco V160 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn DB started.The four axle loco was driven by a 16 cylinder diesel motor MB 16V 652 TB. The 1900-HP-locos were used in medium passenger and freight duty and reached a maximum speed of 120 km/h.

BR 216 Caterpillar 3516 N XL L M4

In the early 2000s, the construction company Wiebe acquired the three former DB-216 032, 068 and 122 through several intermediaries. Since the locomotives were no longer to be used for passenger trains, the steam boiler was removed and an additional weight installed as compensation. BR 218 MTU 4000R 16V N XL L M4

After at least 15 years of hard service, many TB11 12-cylinder 218 series diesel engines were coming to the end of their useful life. From 1996, MTU switched the production of locomotive diesel motors to the Type 4000, which was available with eight, twelve and 16 cylinders and was much more compact than the massive TB10 and TB11.
