The GE B23-7 diesel locomotive was first offered in late 1977. Featuring a smaller 12 cylinder version of the FDL engine, it is the successor to GE's U23B produced from early 1968 to mid 1977, but at 62 ' 2" long, the B23-7 is exactly 2' 0" longer than the firms U23B. The B23-7 competed with the very successful EMD GP38-2. General Electric also produced a variant, the BQ23-7, for the Seaboard Coast Line. A total of 537 B23-7's were built for 9 U.S. customers and 2 Mexican customers.
This sound file is appropriate for the following locomotives:
B23-7, BQ23-7, B30-7A, C30-7A
Unlike our 75405 Early 12cyl 7FDL which is correct for The "U-Series" locomotives, this 12cyl 7FDL is more appropriate for the "Dash-7 Series" of GE locomotives.
While this prime mover is not completely accurate for the following locomotives it would also be an suitable alternative to break up the monotony on your railroad.
U18D, U20C, U23B, U23C, U26C, Dash 8-32B (B32-8), Dash 8-32C (C32-8)
Recorded from a GE B23-7
This project is a normal idle version. It has a single late (silenced) exhaust stack.
File also contains an "Isolation Switch" Mode on F15 when Standing Still.
Pressing F15 while not moving will lower the prime mover and lock the motor. F15 must be turned off to begin moving.
Another Mode is "Reverser In Center Position". When pressing F24 while stopped, the motor will lock so you can throttle through the notches like the prototype in neutral. F24 must be turned off to begin moving.
This project has "Run 8" mode. When turning on F26 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to run 8. Turning off F26 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
This project has "Coast" mode. When turning on F27 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to idle for coasting purposes. Turning off F27 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
You can still use F26 and F27 for manual nothing. You have to keep both F26 and F27 off before pressing F28 to turn on manual notching. Once F28 is on, you can use F26 to notch up and F27 to notch down. F26, F27, and F28 must be turned off to return to normal mode.
This project has "Load" mode. When turning on F29 with F15, F24, F26, F27, F28 off, the prime mover goes into load mode. While you are using load mode, the prime mover will notch up 1 or more notches based on primary load settings(CV104). The throttle notches up using speed instead of requested speed while using the load feature. F29 must be turned off to return to normal mode.

Auto Bell:
Many Second and Third Generation locomotives have been fitted with an Automatic Bell that is triggered when the horn is blown. In MANY cases this cannot even be bypassed on modern locos. Before the FRA mandated this feature on new locomotives the bell was of course turned on and off separately. Some locomotives were delivered with a manual bell and have been converted to an automatic bell. This creates a challenge in sound file creation.
We realize that not every loco with a particular prime mover had this feature. As such we have built in an option to turn the feature on and off. We will set the default in the file to be what is most appropriate for the particular file.
To turn the feature OFF - Auto Bell OFF:

First introduced in the late 50's, the GE FDL is one of the most popular locomotive prime movers ever produced. Aside from a very few HDL prime movers installed in the AC6000CW's, FDL prime movers were still being put in every new GE locomotive until 2003 when the first Evolution Series was implemented.
Our GE 12cyl 7FDL Early Prime mover would be appropriate for the following locomotives:
U23B, U20C, U23C, U26C
Some newer GE 12cyl 7FDL equipped locomotive had a SLIGHTLY different sound due to a larger exhaust and other hardware. While we will be releasing that sound file shortly, this file will be a VERY close substitute until then. Those locomotives would include:
B23-7, BQ23-7, B30-7A, C30-7A

The GE Dash 8-32B (also classified as B32-8 or D8-32B by some railroad companies) is a 4-axle 3,150 hp (2,350 kW) diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems between 1984 and 1989. It is part of the GE Dash 8 Series of freight locomotives.
A total of 49 examples of the Dash 8-32B model were built for North American railroads. The model is a 12-cylinder version of the (16 cylinder) Dash 8-40B and is powered by GE's 7FDL engine. The first units built for the Burlington Northern Railroad were labelled by GE as B32-8, while later units built for Norfolk Southern followed GE's practice after 1987 of spelling "Dash 8" in the model name.
The GE Dash 8-32BWH (or B32-8WH) is a variant built with Head End Power (HEP) and a wide cab for Amtrak service. Please use file number S0833 for the Amtrak version with HEP.

The GE Dash 8-32BWH, also known as the P32-8BWH, B32-8WH, or P32 DASH-8, is a passenger train locomotive used by Amtrak, based on GE's Dash 8 series of freight train locomotives. Built in 1991, they were the first locomotives purchased to replace the EMD F40PH.
The Dash 8-32BWH operates in a diesel-electric configuration that uses DC to power the traction motors, producing 3,200 hp (2,400 kW) at 1047 rpm. When providing head end power to the train, the engine is speed locked to 900 rpm. Power output to the traction motors is 2,700 hp (2,000 kW) when running in HEP mode with a 0 kW HEP load. Traction horsepower decreases to a bare minimum of 1,685 hp (1,257 kW) when providing the maximum 800 kW (1,100 hp) HEP load to the train.
The Dash 8-32BWH has a 74:29 gear ratio, resulting in a maximum operating speed of 103 mph (166 km/h) in passenger operation.
Recorded from a GE B32-8

While you are using load mode, the prime mover will notch up 1 or more notches based on primary load settings(CV104). The throttle notches up using speed instead of requested speed while using the load feature. F29 must be turned off to return to normal mode.
This file has a Special feature providing the sounds and operation of the Head End Power unit. This is used on the prototype loco to provide electricity to the coaches as these locos are almost always used in passenger service.
To engage HEP you must be stopped in Idle. Pressing F26 (Shift 2) will engage the HEP unit and allow the prime mover to run at a higher RPM.
When in stations often the engineer will go into Standby mode to preserve fuel and to allow the noise levels to come down a little. Pressing F27 on the throttle once HEP has already been engaged will allow the prime mover to come down a little. Again this can only be done while sitting still as on the prototype there is not enough RPM to provide power to the coaches and traction motors at the same time in Standy Mode.
This file is also equipped with a Smart Start feature that cycles the prime mover on and off at intervals of your choice if the throttle is left at Idle and the loco is stopped.

Introduced in 2012, General Electric's Tier 4 GEVo Series represents the latest in diesel-electric locomotive technology. The GE Tier 4 GEVo is designed to meet increasingly stringent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emissions regulations.
The EPA “Tier” emissions standards are a series, or Tiers, of allowable emissions levels based upon a locomotives’ date of manufacture. The highest and most stringent tier level, Tier 4, sets maximum allowable NOx and hydrocarbon emissions levels for locomotives built for domestic use 2015 onward.
While similar in appearance to previous GE GEVo designs, the Tier 4 models featured a longer frame compared to their predecessors. This allows for a larger radiator “cab” (GE refers to the various sections of the long hood as “cabs”), and a "hump" over the engine cab for advanced exhaust treatment equipment.
Initially, a boxy housing filled the entire roofline on the blue-painted field test/demonstrator units. Due to changes in treatment equipment and clearance issues, the "hump" would decrease in size and shape into a boxy compartment around the exhaust on initial production units. This culminated in an angled compartment surrounding the exhaust manifold on the latest production versions (2016+).
Despite boxier engine cab rooflines and a radically styled radiator cab, the basic Tier 4 design shares a family appearance with GE safety cab-equipped units going back to the DASH-9s of the 1990s. It even includes the same 12-cylinder GEVo-12 series prime mover and 4,400hp as its predecessor model.
The Tier 4 units have proven to be popular with the major railroads including BNSF Railway, Canadian National, CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern, and Union Pacific. While GE has settled on a basic carbody design to keep production costs down, there are notable variations and detail differences due to customer specifications.
With many units built for railroads across the US and in Canada, the Tier 4 GEVo can be seen operating nationwide in a variety of assignments.

Prime mover volume selection mode. By default the prime mover has volume dynamics. Meaning idle is soft while notch 8 is loud. This is very prototypical. The next option is volume maxed out. Meaning idle and notch 8 are the same volume. This is more suitable for people who like it loud.

GE Evolution 12cyl "GEVO" Locomotives have a 4 stoke diesel engine and have been designed to be more efficient and more emission friendly than previous models. Evolution Series locomotives are equipped with either AC or DC traction motors, depending on the customer's preference, though admittedly there is little sound difference if any between the two.
All early GEVOs were delivered with the Nathan Airchime K5HL air horn. Later GEVOs started to recieve a slightly different K5HLL horn. Most if not all have been delivered with a Graham-White 373 E-Bell. This E-Bell is tied to the horn circuit in the locomotive and will play automatically when the horn is played. The ESU version also has this new feature. The bell can be activated by either pressing F1 or by pressing the horn using F2. The "Auto-Bell" can be turned off by removing the the Auto-Bell sound slot from F2.
Another feature of the prototype is "Smart Start". For the sake of both emissions and fuel savings all GEVOs have been built with an auto shutdown/auto start feature. After the loco has been idle for a period time, the engine will shut down on its own. If the prime mover cools to a certain temperature the loco will automatically start again to keep from freezing.
Recorded from a GE ES44AC
This project has an automatic low & high idle.
You can still use F26 and F27 for manual notching.
The GE FDL-16 prime mover was first used in 1959 in the General Electric U25B locomotive. Over the years little changed in terms of sound until the "Dash-8" series of GE locomotives was introduced. Known for their throaty chug and shaft driven compressor (rather than the more modern “Whoop” electric compressor) , the following GE locomotives used the early 16cyl FDL prime mover:
U25B, U28B, U30B, U33B, U36B, U25C, U28C, U28CG, U30C, U30CG, P30CH, U34CH, U33C, U36C, B30-7, B36-7, C30-7, C36-7

In the Mid 1980s GE changed it's 16cyl FDL design to include a different exhaust silencer, a new electric compressor often known as the "Whoop compressor" and changed some of the electronics of their locomotives. These differences among a few other led to a distinct change in the sounds from the GE 16cyl FDL often found from the U25Bs on through the Dash-7 series of the Locomotives.
Keeping in tradition with GE's locomotive series nicknames beginning with the "Dash 7" of the 1970s, the C44-9W was dubbed the Dash 9 upon its debut in 1993.
The "Dash-9" GE 16-7FDL16Y2 Prime mover can be found in the following Locos:
Dash 9-40C, Dash 9-40CW, Dash 9-44CW, C44-9WL, C44-9WM
It is also very close to the following locos:
AC44C6M, AC44C4M, Dash 8-39B, Dash 8 40-B, Dash 8-40BW, Dash 8-39C, Dash 8-40C, Dash 8-40CM, Dash 8-40CW, Dash 8-41CW, Dash 8-44CW, C38EMi, C38AChe, AC4400CW
Some AC6000CW were built with 7FDL-16cyls and were later converted to 7HDL-16cyl. Some were never converted. Please refer to the prototype for reference.

1. Remove the Auto bell sound slot from the function mapping chart
CV31 = 16, CV32 = 8
----------------------
CV311 = 4
2. Change the sound configuration of the Auto bell sound slot
CV31 = 16, CV32 = 1

To turn the feature ON - Auto Bell ON:
1. ADD the Auto bell sound slot from the function mapping chart

The GE FDL-16 prime mover was first used in 1959 in the General Electric U25B locomotive. Over the years little changed in terms of sound until the "Dash-8" series of GE locomotives was introduced. Known for their throaty chug and shaft driven compressor (rather than the more modern “Whoop” electric compressor). There was an interim period following the "U Boats" that began the era in GE called the "Dash-7s". During this time many locos started receiving exhaust silencers and the shape of the exhaust changed to the "Bathtub" type. This created a subtle change in sound. The following GE locomotives used the 16cyl FDL prime mover with this type of configuration.
Locomotives:
B30-7, B36-7, C30-7, C36-7, and others.
The following locomotives would use early 16cyl FDL configurations, but this file would work for them as it is very close. Check your prototype as some of the later “U boats” were upgraded with more modern exhausts. You could also use our 73445/74445 GE 16cyl FDL Early file:
U25B, U28B, U30B, U33B, U36B, U25C, U28C, U28CG, U30C, U30CG, P30CH, U34CH, U33C, U36C
Recorded from a GE C30-7
