Budd RDC
Detroit Diesel Dual 6cyl Prime Movers
The Budd Rail Diesel Car, RDC or Buddliner is a self-propelled diesel multiple unit (DMU) railcar. Between 1949 and 1962, 398 RDCs were built by the Budd Company of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The cars were primarily adopted for passenger service in rural areas with low traffic density or in short-haul commuter service, and were less expensive to operate in this context than a traditional diesel locomotive-drawn train with coaches. The cars could be used singly or coupled together in train sets and controlled from the cab of the front unit. The RDC was one of the few DMU trains to achieve commercial success in North America. RDC trains were an early example of self-contained diesel multiple unit trains, an arrangement now in common use by railways all over the world.
Budd RDCs were sold to operators in North America, South America, Asia, and Australia. They saw extensive use in the Northeast United States, both on branch lines and in commuter service. As passenger service declined in the United States the RDC was often the last surviving conveyor of passengers on a particular route. Most RDCs were retired by the 1980s. In Canada, RDCs have remained in continuous use since their introduction in the 1950s.

This project is a normal idle version. It has single exhaust stacks per motor.
"Reverser In Center Position". When pressing F24 while stopped, the motor will lock so you can throttle through the notches like the prototype in neutral. F24 must be turned off to begin moving.
This project has "Run 8" mode. When turning on F26 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to run 8. Turning off F26 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
This project has "Coast" mode. When turning on F27 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to idle for coasting purposes. Turning off F27 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
You can still use F26 and F27 for manual nothing. You have to keep both F26 and F27 off before pressing F28 to turn on manual notching. Once F28 is on, you can use F26 to notch up and F27 to notch down. F26, F27, and F28 must be turned off to return to normal mode.
This project has "Load" mode. When turning on F29 with F15, F24, F26, F27, F28 off, the prime mover goes into load mode. While you are using load mode, the prime mover will notch up 1 or more notches based on primary load settings(CV104). The throttle notches up using speed instead of requested speed while using the load feature. F29 must be turned off to return to normal mode.

Auto Bell:
Many Second and Third Generation locomotives have been fitted with an Automatic Bell that is triggered when the horn is blown. In MANY cases this cannot even be bypassed on modern locos. Before the FRA mandated this feature on new locomotives the bell was of course turned on and off separately. Some locomotives were delivered with a manual bell and have been converted to an automatic bell. This creates a challenge in sound file creation.
We realize that not every loco with a particular prime mover had this feature. As such we have built in an option to turn the feature on and off. We will set the default in the file to be what is most appropriate for the particular file.
To turn the feature OFF - Auto Bell OFF:
1. Remove the Auto bell sound slot from the function mapping chart

The GE "Genesis" series of Locomotives was developed to be the main locomotives for Amtrak. Amtraks EMD F40PH locomotives were aging fast and GE came to the rescue with a more powerful and more fuel efficient design. Some P42 Locomotives were built with a Dual Mode capability utilizing a 3rd Rail shoe for collecting electricity. These engines run on the North East Corridor on Amtrak and on Metro North. The ESU version is the DC model which is much more common. It can be used to represent the P42s used by Amtrak, Via, NJT and Conn DOT. It can also be used in the non-electrified Areas of Metro North.
The P42 has a Very Specific Sound set. No Generic GE sound is correct for it. We have gone out of our way to make sure the sound we provide is as accurate as possible. We’ve even had the opportunity to take a cab in a P42 and take note of exactly how the engine was operated so that we could produce a sound that is absolutely true to the prototype.

This file has a Special feature providing the sounds and operation of the Head End Power unit. This is used on the prototype loco to provide electricity to the coaches as these locos are almost always used in passenger service.
To engage HEP you must be stopped in Idle. Pressing F26 (Shift 2) will engage the HEP unit and allow the prime mover to run at a higher RPM.
When in stations often the engineer will go into Standby mode to preserve fuel and to allow the noise levels to come down a little. Pressing F27 on the throttle once HEP has already been engaged will allow the prime mover to come down a little. Again this can only be done while sitting still as on the prototype there is not enough RPM to provide power to the coaches and traction motors at the same time in Standy Mode.

The EMD GP39-2 is a 4-axle diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between 1974 and 1984. 239 examples of this locomotive were built for American railroads. Part of the EMD Dash 2 line, the GP39-2 was an upgraded GP39. The power for this locomotive was provided by a turbocharged 12-cylinder EMD 645E3 diesel engine, which could produce 2,300 horsepower.

The EMD 567 family of Prime Mover was one of the most widely used in the world! From F-Units to Geeps this popular power house can still be found in many locomotives riding the rails today. Our EMD 12cyl version of the 567B would be appropriate for the following locomotives:

EMD SD90MAC-H Phase II or SD70ACe-T4?
The SD70ACe-T4 is the Tier 4 emissions standards-compliant version of the SD70ACe. The first locomotive, EMDX 1501, was built in summer 2015, and made its debut at the Railway Interchange Expo in Minneapolis, Minnesota during the weekend of October 3–4, 2015. It features a new 4-stroke engine called the EMD 12-1010 "J" series - a V12 with 1010 cu.in displacement for each cylinder. This new prime mover has a two-stage turbocharger system consisting of three turbos; one turbo (the primary/high pressure turbo) for low-mid RPM and two turbos (the secondary/low pressure turbos) for mid-high RPM. The results of this setup are higher power throughout a broader RPM range, better fuel efficiency, and lower emissions. An EGR system is applied as well, allowing the engine to achieve Tier 4 without the use of urea aftertreatment. Another new feature of this engine is the Double-Walled Fuel Injection System that increases safety and provides simplified maintenance works.
The EMD 12-1010 is capable of producing 4,600 hp, but only 4,400 tractive horsepower.[15] With a new computer software for the on-board computer and one inverter per axle (or "P6"; EMD named it "Individual Axle Control") - unlike most of previous EMD locomotives that use one inverter per truck, the SD70ACe-T4 is capable of generating 200,000 lbf. (889.64 kN.) of starting tractive effort, and 175,000 lbf. (778.75 kN.) of continuous tractive effort. Meanwhile, its dynamic braking effort is as much as 105,000 lbf. (467.25 kN.) The amount of starting tractive effort is equal to that of the 6,000 hp SD90MAC-H while, on the other hand, its continuous tractive effort is higher than that of the SD90MAC-H (175,000 lbf. vs. 165,000 lbf.). The units are also equipped with "radial bogies" which offer increased adhesion and better ride quality.
While it retains the basic SD70 designation, the locomotive has several major new features that set it apart from its successful ancestor such as a vibration-isolated powertrain, and alternator start capability. In addition, it features a newly redesigned cab reminiscent of the earlier SD70M, featuring the classic "teardrop" windshields first introduced on the FP45 in December 1967; new fabricated trucks; a longer frame (76 ft. 8 in / 23.37 m); longer radiators with three radiator fans instead of two; an additional step on the front and rear; and a smoother long hood roofline.
Fifteen SD70ACe-T4 demonstrators were built at Muncie, IN by November 2016. Union Pacific Railroad is the first customer to order SD70ACe-T4's. UP 3012-3014, the first production SD70ACe-T4's, were assigned to active service in early November 2016.
Union Pacific will acquire 100 SD70ACe-T4's: 12 former demonstrators will be rostered as UP 3000-3011, and 88 production units (3012-3099). 3012-3056 were built at Bombardier's Sahagun, Mexico plant. 3057-3099 will be built at Muncie, IN, following completion of the Tier 4 credit SD70ACe's UP 8997-9096. All UP SD70ACe-T4's are classified as SD70AHs.
EMDX 1501 will remain in Progress Rail Services ownership as a test bed.
SD70ACeP4-T4's EMDX 1603 and 1604 were built and painted as demonstrators for the BNSF Railway. These units have a B1-1B wheel arrangement akin to the SD70ACe-P4.
In August 2018, CSX Transportation ordered 10 SD70ACe-T4's, of which all have now been delivered. They are classified by CSX as ST70AH.
Norfolk Southern initially also ordered 10 SD70ACe-T4's, but later cancelled the order, instead opting for more SD70ACe Tier-4 credit locomotives.

While not exactly the same, The EMD 12-1010J prime mover sounds very much like the EMD GM16V265H used in the SD90MAC-H Phase II locomotives. While the prime mover has been discontinued and mostly scrapped in the US there are a few operating examples in China and Australia. Hopefully someday a true recording can be acquired but for now this is quite close!
As no models have been created for the SD70ACe T4 at the time of this file release we have set up the function mapping and horn and bell sounds to work with the Athearn SD90MAC-H Phase II locomotives.

New Orleans' St. Charles Streetcar Line is the world's oldest continuously operated electric railway line. Electric operation began in 1893, when streetcars took over after 20 years of horsecar operation. In 1922, operation of all New Orleans streetcar lines was taken over by New Orleans Public Service Inc., or NOPSI for short. In 1923, the current streetcars, designed and built by the Perley Thomas Car Company of High Point, North Carolina, were introduced. In 1973, the St. Charles Line and the remaining fleet of 35 Perley Thomas cars received national recognition when they were named to the National Register of Historic Places.
Many of these cars are still in use today!
This ESU Sound file is set up for the Bowser HO Cars but it can be used in similar cars in any scale.
This car has direction gong bells and operates much like the Original car it was recorded from.

Beginning in the 1950s, the Union Pacific Railroad sought higher and higher horsepower ratings from its locomotives to help move increasingly heavier and longer trains. Gas-Turbine Electric Locomotives (GTEL) technology promised much higher horsepower ratings over the diesel-electric locomotive designs of the time. General Electric (GE) and American Locomotive Co. (ALCO) built the first GTEL design, a double-ended, 4,500 horsepower, B+B – B+B unit, delivered as UP #50 in 1949.
This groundbreaking design would kick off the “Turbine Era” on the UP, which saw GE building successively larger and more powerful GTELs that would power UP’s hottest trains over the next two decades. The basic principal of the GTEL saw a GE-designed and built gas turbine… essentially a type of jet engine… driving a generator that produced electricity , which was fed to the traction motors on the locomotive’s axels. This design offered several advantages over more conventional diesel-electric locomotive designs of the era, particularly in horsepower. While competing cab and hood designs of the era boasted 1,500 – 1,750 hp, the first GTELs boasted 4,500 hp. Another advantage of the GTEL was it being designed to burn Bunker C heavy fuel oil, which, at the time, was much less expensive compared to conventional diesel fuel oil. GE would build successive batches of GTELs for UP, with each new design featuring improvements and design changes learned from experience from their predecessors.
Despite their outstanding performance, the “Big Blows” were to have relatively short careers. One of the contributing factors to this was rising fuel costs; the once-cheap Bunker C fuel oil the turbines were designed to burn, which refiners practically couldn’t give away early on, saw its price per gallon rise dramatically in the 1960s, eventually negating the fuel cost advantage the turbines enjoyed over their diesel-electric contemporaries. Rising maintenance costs compared to diesel-electrics also became an issue. The turbine engines were complex pieces of machinery compared to a typical diesel prime mover, in particular the delicate turbine fan blades. These factors, along with advances in diesel-electric locomotive horsepower, and limitations on where the GTELs could operate, saw the first of the “Big Blows”, UP 1-4, retired in August of 1968, after scarcely 10 years of service. Their numbers continued to dwindle over the last few years of the decade, with UP #7 holding the distinction of being the last “Big Blow” to operate, pulling its last train on December 26th, 1969. All were officially retired by February 1970, closing out the loud and exciting Turbine Era on the Union Pacific.
As the Evolution of the GTEL Turbines progressed multiple versions were created. Among these were Single Unit and A-B sets with the Hostler Motor in the A unit and the Turbine in the B Unit. The file contains both Hoslter Motor and Turbine in one decoder. If modelling a Single unit just plug in and go! If using this in an A-B set 2 decoders will be needed. Simply turn the volume of the Turbine down in the A Unit decoder, and turn the volume of the Hostler Motor to 0 in the B Unit. DO NOT DISABLE them from function mapping as the Hostler motor sounds "talk" to the Turbine sounds inside the sound schedules within the decoder.
This file does contain "Full Throttle" capabilities. While the Turbine does not go up and down once turned on the Full Throttle abilities allow the Turbine to be Consisted with Diesels as this became a common practice in the late 1950's

The Iconic GG-1 is known around the world as the American Electric Streamliner. Built by GE and the famous Pennsylvania Railroad Altoona Shops the GG-1s were constructed between 1934 to 1943. Operating in a multitude of paint schemes the GG-1s ran on PRR, Penn Central, Conrail, Amtrak, and NJT. Primarily they ran on the North East Corridor between New York City and Washington DC. They did occasionally see service on other electric lines around the north east United States.
Though the GG-1 was relatively quiet compared to its diesel electric cousins our ESU version includes correct GG-1 A-200 Air horns, Proper GG-1 Bells, Sounds of the pantographs going up and down, transformer sounds, traction motor fans, traction motor gear whine, random compressor, new air release and brake squeal sounds, curve squeal, and track sounds.

"Galloping Goose" is the popular name given to a series of seven railcars (officially designated as "motors" by the railroad), built in the 1930s by the Rio Grande Southern Railroad (RGS) and operated until the end of service on the line in the early 1950s.
Originally running steam locomotives on narrow gauge railways, the perpetually struggling RGS developed the first of the "geese" as a way to stave off bankruptcy and keep its contract to run mail to towns in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. There was not enough passenger or cargo income to justify continuing the expensive steam train service at then-current levels, but it was believed that a downsized railway would return to profitability. The steam trains would transport heavy cargo and peak passenger loads, but motors would handle lighter loads.
Motors were not only less expensive to operate, but were also significantly lighter, thus reducing impact on the rails and roadbeds. This cost saving meant that the first Goose was paid off and making a profit within three weeks of going into service. RGS built more Geese, and operated them until the company abandoned their right-of-way in 1952.

License Agreement
1. GRANT OF LICENSE
1.1 ESU grants you a non-transferable, limited, non-exclusive right to use the Content solely for your own personal purposes. You may load the Content into RAM, as well as installation on a hard disk or other storage device on a single computer, hardware product or mobile device owned by you or under your control. The installation process may result in a copy of the Content residing on your computer, in which case, you may retain one (1) copy of the Content on your computer, provided that you retain all copyright and other proprietary notices on the copy and the copy is kept in your possession with the original.1.2 By using the Content, you shall not obtain any ownership, copyright, proprietary or other interest in or to the Content. The Content is licensed, not sold.
1.3 You are licensed to use, modify and combine the Sound Samples with sound samples provided by third parties, to create your own sound compositions which, subject to you complying with the terms of this Agreement, you are free to distribute as you wish provided that: (i) the Sound Samples have been mixed together to create an original work; (ii) individual Sound Samples are not used in isolation and (iii) the Sound Samples or derivatives are not used to create sound libraries for distribution to third parties.
2. PROHIBITED USES
Neither you, nor anyone at your direction, shall:2.1 use the Content, or any part of it, for any public performance, live broadcast or time delayed live broadcast where the Content is used unattended for commercial purposes without ESU' s prior written consent;
2.2 use the Content, or any part of it, in any competitive product;
2.3 sub-license, copy, reproduce, transmit, assign, rent, sell, lease, offer on a pay-per-play basis, distribute for money or any other consideration, or commercially exploit in any other manner or through any medium whatsoever or otherwise transfer in any way the Content or any part thereof;
2.4 manufacture and/or distribute for money or otherwise commercially exploit any product that incorporates any part of the Content. If you wish to use any part of the Content for manufacture, resale, sub-license or further distribution, you must contact ESU (and where relevant, its licensors) to enter into an appropriate agreement with ESU (and, where relevant, its licensors);
2.5 publish the results of any analysis or comparative evaluation of the Content or any part thereof without ESU' s prior written consent;
2.6 reverse engineer, recompile or disassemble any part of the Content except to the extent and in the circumstances expressly permitted by ESU and its licensors in writing or by law;
3. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
You acknowledge that all intellectual property rights in the Content are and shall remain vested in ESU and its licensors. You undertake not to interfere with or diminish, whether by act or omission, the rights, title and interest in the Content of ESU and its licensors. You may be held responsible by ESU and/or any of its licensors for any infringement of any intellectual property rights in the Content. For the avoidance of doubt, provided that you comply with the terms of this Agreement, ESU shall not claim ownership of the intellectual property rights in any compositions created by your use of the Content.4. TERM AND TERMINATION
This Agreement is effective from the first date you install the Content. The rights granted to you under this Agreement shall terminate if you fail to abide by its terms. Upon such termination you agree to destroy the Content including any Content stored on the hard disk of any computer under your control. You may terminate this Agreement at any time by destroying or erasing all your copies of the Content. Any termination of this Agreement (howsoever occasioned) shall not affect any accrued rights or liabilities of you or ESU nor shall it affect the coming into force or the continuance in force of the provisions of Clauses 2, 3, 5 and 6 and any provision hereof which is by implication intended to come into or continue in force on or after such termination.5. NO WARRANTIES
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, ESU AND ITS LICENSORS PROVIDE THE CONTENT "AS IS" AND ESU EXCLUDES ON BEHALF OF ITSELF AND ITS LICENSORS, ALL CONDITIONS, TERMS, REPRESENTATIONS (OTHER THAN FRAUDULENT REPRESENTATIONS) AND WARRANTIES RELATING TO THE CONTENT, WHETHER IMPOSED BY STATUTE OR BY OPERATION OF LAW OR OTHERWISE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF SATISFACTORY QUALITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. NEITHER ESU NOR ITS LICENSORS WARRANT THAT THE OPERATION OF THE CONTENT WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR FREE, VIRUS FREE OR MEET YOUR SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS. YOU MAY HAVE OTHER RIGHTS THAT VARY FROM JURISDICTION TO JURISDICTION.6. ESU's LIABILITY
Neither ESU nor its licensors shall have any liability to you for any loss or damage caused directly or indirectly in connection with the Content, any part thereof or this Agreement, except to the extent that such liability cannot be lawfully excluded. In any case, neither ESU nor its licensors shall be liable for any loss of business, data, profits, savings, or any other special, incidental, consequential, indirect or economic loss whatsoever even if such losses were contemplated at the date of this Agreement.7. GENERAL
7.1 You acknowledge that damages alone might be insufficient remedy for any breach of the terms of this Agreement and that the remedies of injunction, specific performance or other equitable relief would be suitable remedies in the event of any breach or threatened breach of this Agreement.7.2 You may not assign or otherwise transfer all or any part of this Agreement or the rights granted to you hereunder.
7.3 ESU is not obliged to provide any maintenance, technical support or upgrades to you.
7.4 You agree to comply with all applicable import and export regulations and acknowledge that you have the responsibility for obtaining all necessary licenses to export, re-export, transfer or import the Content.
7.5 This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and ESU with respect to the subject matter hereof and supersedes all prior agreements, arrangements and understandings between the parties and constitutes the entire agreement between the parties relating to such subject matter hereof. No addition to or modification of any provision of this Agreement shall be binding upon ESU and you unless made by a written instrument signed by a duly authorized representative of ESU and you.
7.6 No forbearance, delay or indulgence by either party in enforcing the provisions of this Agreement shall prejudice or restrict the rights of that party nor shall any waiver of its rights operate as a waiver of any subsequent breach and no right, power or remedy herein conferred upon or reserved for either party is exclusive of any other right, power or remedy available to that party and each such right, power or remedy shall be cumulative.
7.7 Notwithstanding that the whole or any part of any provision of this Agreement may prove to be illegal or unenforceable the other provisions of this Agreement and the remainder of the provision in question shall remain in full force and effect.
