The dieselelectric locos 246 (builder name Traxx P160 DE) and 285 (Traxx F140 DE) were developed out of the famous Traxx family of German Bombardier Transportation. Prime mover is a MTU 16 V 4000 R 43 L that develops 3263 HP. The French four axle locos BB 63000 were built for heavy switching and medium freight service in 1953 till 1964. The diesel electric locos had a Sulzer diesel motor that developed 552 kW at 950 rpm. The 250 locos reached a maximum speed of 90 km/h. BB 63000 coupled to a steam heating car were used sometimes in regional passenger service on branch lines. (sound can also be used for the slovenian AZ 643).

NS 6400  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

Class 6400 of Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) had been delivered by German Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK) from 1988 till 1994. The 120 locos develop 1180 kW at 1800 rpm and reach a maximum speed of 120 km/h. From 2007 till 2011 the four axle locos had been also used for cross border service to Germany.

BR 245 is the brand new diesel electric multi-motor loco of German State Railway DB. Based on the electric locos BR 145-185 new 245 shares around 75 % of the parts with them. The four Caterpillar CAT C18 diesel motors develop 563 kW each. The loco is able to reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Only sometimes the traction motors need the energy of all of the four motors, so the electronic system decides by itself to start or to switch off motors during operation.

RhB Gmf 4/4 242-243  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

For traction of trains for construction areas Swiss Rhetian Railway (RhB) ordered two diesel electric Gmf 4/4 242 and 243 at German manufacturer Kaelble-Gmeinder. The four axle locos are driven by a Caterpillar 12 cylinder prime mover 3412 DI-TA and reach a maximum speed of 60 km/h.

Between 1963 and 1992 Polish manufacturer Fablok built 1822 samples of hood style diesel electric freight loco SM 42. Additional 268 units (SP42) were ordered with steam heating boiler for passenger train service. The eight cylinder prime mover develops 800 HP and enables the loco to reach a maximum speed of 90 km/h.

For replacement of old fashioned steam shunters Swiss State Railway SBB ordered 46 samples of diesel electric four axled Bm 4/4. The 12 cylinder diesel develops 620 kW and enables the loco to reach a maximum speed of 75 km/h.
