BR 216 / V160  LokSound 5 factory equipped sounds N XL L M4

In 1964 series production of dieselhydraulic main line loco V160 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn DB started.The four axle loco was driven by a 16 cylinder diesel motor MB 16V 652 TB. The 1900-HP-locos were used in medium passenger and freight duty and reached a maximum speed of 120 km/h.

After nine pre-series locomotives of the diesel-hydraulic series V160 with a complex round front (nicknamed Lollo, after the Italian film actress Gina Lollobrigida), in 1963 Henschel produced the last pre-series locomotive with an angular front, similar to that of the six-axle V320. Common to all pre-series locomotives was the 16-cylinder Maybach MD 870 diesel engine (later renamed MTU 16V 538 TB). In 1971 German Federal Railway DB ordered 42 sampels of triple dieselhydraulic railcar VT 614. A MAN diesel motor D 3650 HM 12 U in both of the cab cars developed 331 kW at 2150 rpm. The railcars reached a maximum speed of 140 km/h and were sold or scrapped until 2010.
