RhB Ge 2/4  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

In 1913 Swiss narrow gauge Rhaetian railway RhB ordered seven samples of small electric loco Ge 2/4. The locos are equipped with side rods and deliver 228 kW. For additional tractive effort, RhB increased power up to 450 kW at two locos. So the maximum speed increased from 45 to 55 km/h.

SBB Ce 6/8 III - Be 6/8 III  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

The Swiss electric locos Ce 6/8 III and Be 6/8 III are probably the most famous electric locos in the world. The first of the 33 locos (nick name “crocodile”) were delivered in 1919. Those locos delivered 1647 kW and reached a maximum speed of 65 km/h. The strong four –motor- units were used in heavy freight and passenger service. In the 1940s SBB modernized 13 locos (re-numbered to Be 6/8 II) with new motors to reach a maximum speed of 75 km/h. In 1977 last Be 6/8 quitted service.

In 1913 the Rhetian Railway (RhB) of Switzerland needed eight electric locos for their first AC line between Samedan and Scuol. The assembly had been done by SLM in Winterthur. The four driven axles are connected by side rods. Wheel arrangement is 2-8-2. With a tractive power of 1280 HP the loco reached a maximum speed of 34 mph. The last of the very successful locos had been taken out of service in 1984. In Swiss depot in Samedan 353 is still operated for fan trips

In 1976 German Duesseldorfer Waggonfabrik AG (Duewag) presented the six axle electric street railcar M6/N6. The two motor car has been designed also to operate in subway like tunnels. The M6 delivers 300 kW and reaches a maximum speed of 70 km/h.

SBB Bm 4/4  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

For replacement of old fashioned steam shunters Swiss State Railway SBB ordered 46 samples of diesel electric four axled Bm 4/4. The 12 cylinder diesel develops 620 kW and enables the loco to reach a maximum speed of 75 km/h.

Between 1984 and 1996 Swiss State Railway SBB had ordered 134 Units of electric railcar RBDe 4/4 (later called RBDe 560 NPZ Domino). For adding capacity two rebuilt coaches EW I or EW II were put between the new end cars. The motor car delivers 1650 kW and reaches a maximum speed of 140 km/h.

In 1938 German „Wehrmacht“ received first samples of three-axle shunting locos for service in military facilities. Most units were powered by six-cylinder diesel MWM RHS235S. The side rod equipped locos reached a maximum speed of 55 km/h at 700 rpm. After WW II both German state railways overtook several units, some were sold at private owners.
