The SD80MAC is a 5000 horsepower C-C diesel-electric locomotive. The SD80MAC uses a 20 cylinder version of EMD's 710G prime mover, formally known as the V-20 710G3B-ES and is the first diesel locomotive to use a 20-cylinder engine since the SD45/SD45-2. The SD80MAC introduced a wide radiator housing similar to GE locomotives and the placement of dynamic brakes at the rear of the locomotive. Key spotting difference between the SD80MAC and SD90MAC include: no external rear sandbox on the 90MAC, rear number boards, and the placement of the front numberboards (above the cab windows on the SD80MAC, on the nose on most SD90MACs). The SD80MAC also has recessed red marker lights in the nose, an identifying feature unique to Conrail locomotives, although NS has removed the lights on most of their former Conrail engines.
We've tried to be as prototypical as possible with this iconic locomotive. Because of this, the notching on this SD80MAC file may be slightly different from what you are used to. Like many modern EMDs there is a warm-up cycle when you initially turn on the prime mover. This will cause the prime mover to rise and hold for a short period of time. There is also a high and low idle dictated by the isolation switch. If the isolation switch is not activated Notch 1 and Notch 2 are the same as this is high idle. Activating the islolation switch will drop the sounds to low idle.
Recorded from a EMD SD80MAC
This project is an isolation switch based low idle version. It has a single turbo late (silenced) exhaust stack.
File also contains a "low Idle" Mode on F15 when Standing Still.
Pressing F15 while not moving will lower the prime mover and lock the motor. F15 must be turned off to go to "regular idle" and begin moving.
Another Mode is "Reverser In Center Position". When pressing F24 while stopped, the motor will lock so you can throttle through the notches like the prototype in neutral. F24 must be turned off to begin moving.
This project has "Run 8" mode. When turning on F26 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to run 8. Turning off F26 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
This project has "Coast" mode. When turning on F27 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to idle for coasting purposes. Turning off F27 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
You can still use F26 and F27 for manual nothing. You have to keep both F26 and F27 off before pressing F28 to turn on manual notching. Once F28 is on, you can use F26 to notch up and F27 to notch down. F26, F27, and F28 must be turned off to return to normal mode.
This project has "Load" mode. When turning on F29 with F15, F24, F26, F27, F28 off, the prime mover goes into load mode. While you are using load mode, the prime mover will notch up 1 or more notches based on primary load settings(CV104). The throttle notches up using speed instead of requested speed while using the load feature. F29 must be turned off to return to normal mode.
This file is also equipped with a Smart Start feature that cycles the prime mover on and off at intervals of your choice if the throttle is left at Idle and the loco is stopped.

The EMD GP22ECO is a 2,150 hp (1,600 kW) B-B road switcher diesel-electric locomotive rebuilt by Electro-Motive Diesel and Norfolk Southern's Juniata Shops. Initially EMD built two GP22ECO demonstrators, one based on a GP9 and one based on a GP40,[1] but thus far all orders have been for conversions based on EMD GP40 and EMD GP40-2 series locomotives. The rebuild involves replacing the existing prime mover with an EPA Tier-II-compliant turbocharged V8 710G3A, with Electronic fuel injection. The prime mover is mated to an AR10 alternator for traction power, a CA6 alternator for control power, and a computerized control system. Applying this to a 6-axle locomotive results in a SD22ECO. Some 6-axle locomotives could alternately be converted into a SD32ECO, using a 3,150 hp (2,350 kW) V12 instead.
When applied to GP40 or GP40-2 series locomotives, this conversion does not alter the external appearance of the locomotive, although the conversion of the GP9-based demonstrator required extensive changes to the long hood. The GP22ECO offers customers a 'factory' upgrade of existing locomotives.
Norfolk Southern's units were rebuilt from GP38AC units. They also feature electrical, mechanical, and emissions improvements.

The EMD 710 is a line of diesel engines built by Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD). Introduced in 1985, the 710 series replaced the earlier EMD 645 series. Since its introduction, EMD has continually upgraded the 710G diesel engine. Power output has increased from 3,800 horsepower on 1985's 16-710G3A to 4,500 horsepower on 2012's 16-710G3C-T2. Over the production span of certain locomotive models, upgraded engine models have been fitted when these became available. For example, an early 1994-built SD70MAC had a 16-710G3B, whereas a later 2003-built SD70MAC would have a 16-710G3C-T1.
In 2005 EMD was released a Tier 2 710 prime mover for thier upcoming SD70M-2 and SD70ACe models. The SD70M-2 is a DC traction version of the SD70ACe, and the two models are nearly identical in every other respect. Like the SD70ACe, the SD70M-2 models are equipped with the 16-710G3C-T2 prime mover which is rated at 4,300 horsepower. One of the main differences in the SD70M-2/SD70ACes from previous SD70s is the addition of Air Start. This loud burst of air in the start sequence is not present on most earlier EMD locomotives. All SD70M-2s and SD70ACes, except for the ones bought by CITX, are equipped with the Airchime model K5LLA air horn and an electronic bell. Due to this Air Start these locomotives have a period of High Idle just after start up to recharge the air and warm up the locomotive.

The EMD SD90MAC is a model of 6,000 hp (4,470 kW)[1] C-C diesel-electric locomotive produced by General Motors Electro-Motive Division. It is, with the SD80MAC, one of the largest single-engined locomotives produced by EMD, surpassed only by the dual-engined DDA40X.
The SD9043MAC is the 4,300 hp (3,210 kW) variant, using a 16-cylinder 710G engine instead of the H-engine, which was originally intended as a temporary alternative while EMD tried to solve the H-engine's issues. However, the accompanying upgrade program was never utilized by its customers.
The SD90MAC's features include radial steering trucks with AC traction motors and an isolated safety cab which is mounted on shock absorbers to lessen vibrations in the cab. The SD90MAC, like the SD80MAC, SD70ACe, and SD70M-2, has a wide radiator section, nearly the entire width of the locomotive, which along with their size makes them easy to spot.
As of 2019, some SD90MACs are still in service on the Union Pacific. Norfolk Southern had rostered 110 SD90MAC locomotives purchased or traded from Union Pacific or the CIT Group respectively, that have now all been rebuilt as EMD SD70ACU locomotives. Canadian Pacific has also opted to convert their small fleet of long-stored SD90MACs into SD70ACUs as well.
This would be correct for the following locomotives:
SD70, SD70M, SD90/43MAC, SD70I,
Though recorded from an SD79043MAC it would be very close to the following locomotives:
SD50AF, GP60, GP60M, GP60B, SD60, SD60M, SD60I, SD60F, SD75M, SD75I, Austrailian National AN Class, SD70MAC, SD50X, GT46C, SD60E (upgraded to 710G3B from 710G3A)and others...

- New Prime Mover Volume Mode Hide description more…
The EMD 645 series engine was an evolution of the earlier 567 series and a precursor to the later 710 series. When the 645 prime mover entered production in 1965, a large series of new locomotive models were introduced. The turbocharged version was used in EMD's 40 Series (GP40, SD40 and SD45) in 3,000 horsepower (2,200 kW), sixteen-cylinder form and in 3,600 horsepower (2,700 kW), twenty-cylinder form. EMD also introduced the Roots-blown 38 Series (GP38, SD38) and turbocharged, twelve-cylinder 39 Series (GP39, SD39). All of these locomotive models extensively share common components and subsystems, thereby significantly reducing cost and increasing interchangeability. The GP38-2 and SD40-2 became the most popular models of the series and among the most popular locomotive models ever built.
This 16cyl 645E3B Turbo sound file would be appropriate for the following locomotives:
SD40-3, SD40-2W, GP40, GP40P, GP40P-2, SD40A, SD45T-2, GP40-2, GP40X, SD40X, SD40-2, F40C, F40PH, F40PH-2, F40PH-2M, SDP40F, SD40-2F
Export locomotives:
GT26MC, GT26CW, GT26CW-1, GT26CW-2, GT26CU-2
This file is made specifically for the use in the CSX SD40-3
These locos were rebuilt with 16cyl 645E3B Prime Movers, had Air Start added, Modern E-Bells, updated Air Dryers, Electric Handbrakes, Smart Start, and other components that made them unique from traditional SD40-2s.
This project has a notch based low idle with automatic high idle. It has a single turbo late (silenced) exhaust stack.
File also contains an "Isolation Switch" Mode on F15 when Standing Still.
Pressing F15 while not moving will lower the prime mover and lock the motor. F15 must be turned off to begin moving.
You can still use F26 and F27 for manual notching.
Prime mover volume selection mode. By default the prime mover has volume dynamics. Meaning idle is soft while notch 8 is loud. This is very prototypical. The next option is volume maxed out. Meaning idle and notch 8 are the same volume. This is more suitable for people who like it loud.

Auto Bell:
Many Second and Third Generation locomotives have been fitted with an Automatic Bell that is triggered when the horn is blown. In MANY cases this cannot even be bypassed on modern locos. Before the FRA mandated this feature on new locomotives the bell was of course turned on and off separately. Some locomotives were delivered with a manual bell and have been converted to an automatic bell. This creates a challenge in sound file creation.
We realize that not every loco with a particular prime mover had this feature. As such we have built in an option to turn the feature on and off. We will set the default in the file to be what is most appropriate for the particular file.
To turn the feature OFF - Auto Bell OFF:
1. Remove the Auto bell sound slot from the function mapping chart

Hide description more…
MPXpress is a series of diesel-electric passenger train locomotives designed for commuter rail service. The locomotives are built by MotivePower, a subsidiary of Wabtec. There are five variants of the MPXpress: MP36PH-3S, MP36PH-3C, MP40PH-3C, MP32PH-Q, and MP54AC. Of these, only the MP54AC conforms to federal Tier 4 emissions standards, making it the only variant that can be sold in the United States. Wabtec no longer lists the MPXpress in its locomotive portfolio.[2]
The MPXpress line of locomotives were the first production passenger locomotives to meet FRA safety regulations regarding crashworthiness and fire safety. The line also meets APTA crashworthiness standards.
Production of the locomotives have kept pace with increasingly stringent emissions regulations from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Between 2002 and 2015, the EPA has issued four "tiers" of emissions standards and in each case the MPXpress was the first (and in some cases, only) passenger locomotive to meet the standard.
Numerous public transit agencies in Canada and the United States have ordered MPXpress locomotives for their commuter rail services. GO Transit is currently the largest client for MPI MPXpress locomotives, with 93 in their fleet.
The prime mover used in the MP36PH-3C is a EMD 16-645F3B. The Prototype has a seperate HEP unit for providing Power to the Passengers. This sound is also available in the in this file as a user dependant function that can turned on and off as needed. (Usually if 2 engines are used only the engine closest to the cars will have the HEP unit running)
These Locomotives are used Daily in "Push-Pull" service and are set up to do so as default in this decoder as well. Operating Front and rear red lights and Headlight/Ditchlights are set accordingly as default.
This project has a notch based low idle. It has a single late (silenced) exhaust stack.

This file has a Special feature providing the sounds and operation of the Head End Power unit. This is used on the prototype loco to provide electricity to the coaches as these locos are almost always used in passenger service.
To engage HEP you must be stopped in Idle. Pressing F26 (Shift 2) will engage the HEP unit and allow the prime mover to run at a higher RPM.
When in stations often the engineer will go into Standby mode to preserve fuel and to allow the noise levels to come down a little. Pressing F27 on the throttle once HEP has already been engaged will allow the prime mover to come down a little. Again this can only be done while sitting still as on the prototype there is not enough RPM to provide power to the coaches and traction motors at the same time in Standy Mode.
This file is also equipped with a Smart Start feature that cycles the prime mover on and off at intervals of your choice if the throttle is left at Idle and the loco is stopped.
