ESU BR 215 - 12V  LokSound V4.0 & LokPilot V4.0 for Factory Equipped Locomotives N XL L M4

The class 215 diesel locomotives of the Western German Railway (DB) are used in mixed service since 1968. 215 001 to 010 and 215 071 to 093 were equipped with a 12 cylinder 4 stroke main Diesel from MAN that was later called MTU 12 V 956 TB10 that generates 2500 HP. All 215 had a steam boiler OK 4616 made by Hagenuk (licence given by Vapor Heating). A quite similar boiler had been used in some american GP7 and GP9 locos as steam heating equipment. During the late 1990s the DB replaced the steam more…

BR 218 BLAU  LokSound 5 factory equipped sounds N XL L M4

After stricter exhaust gas values had been in effect since the early 1990s, it was clear that the 218 that were due for reengineering can no longer be equipped with the exhaust-optimized 12-cylinder diesel engine 12 V 956 TB11, as this no longer complied with the limit values. MTU therefore took the previous engine block from the TB11 and changed the electronics. The blue paintwork also makes the new motor look different from its gray predecessor. The soundscape of the two TB11 versions differs more…

BR245 / Traxx DE ME  LokSound V4.0 & LokPilot V4.0 for Factory Equipped Locomotives N XL L M4

BR 245 is the brand new diesel electric multi-motor loco of German State Railway DB. Based on the electric locos BR 145-185 new 245 shares around 75 % of the parts with them. The four Caterpillar CAT C18 diesel motors develop 563 kW each. The loco is able to reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Only sometimes the traction motors need the energy of all of the four motors, so the electronic system decides by itself to start or to switch off motors during operation.

BR 261  LokSound V4.0 & LokPilot V4.0 for Factory Equipped Locomotives N XL L M4

After Millenium the German State Railway (DB) need to order new locos to replace old fashioned shunting locos of Classes 362 - 365 (former BR V60) and 290 - 295 (former BR V90). The German Voith Turbo Lokomotivtechnik GmbH & Co KG developed the BR261 diesel locomotive. The prime mover of version 10BB is MTU 8V 4000 R42 and develops 1000 kW at 1800 rpm. With a maximum speed of 100 km/h and a tractive power of 258 kN the BR261 is used in heavy shunting service as well as for mid range freight more…

BR132 DR/BR232  LokSound V4.0 & LokPilot V4.0 for Factory Equipped Locomotives N XL L M4

The most famous East German diesel loco is the 132. The six axle diesel electric loco is nicknamed “Ludmilla” by train fans. 709 samples of the 3000 HP locos had been delivered by Lokomotivfabrik Woroschilowgrad in Lugansk (Soviet Union today Ukraine) between 1973 and 1983 to the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR). The 132 reach a maximum speed of 120 km/h and were used for passenger service as well as for heavy freight trains. Even 2015 around 40 units (1994 renumbered for BR 232) are still in use by DB.

BR 265  LokSound V4.0 & LokPilot V4.0 for Factory Equipped Locomotives N XL L M4

For heavy switching and freight service German State Railway DB ordered 31 samples of diesel hydraulic Voith-Gravita® loco. Prime mover MTU 12V 4000 R43L delivers 1800 kW at 1800 rpm and enables the loco to reach a maximum speed of 100 km/h. Also loco rental service Northrail and HzL in Southern Germany bought two samples each.

BR 218 MTU 4000R 16V  LokSound 5 factory equipped sounds N XL L M4

After at least 15 years of hard service, many TB11 12-cylinder 218 series diesel engines were coming to the end of their useful life. From 1996, MTU switched the production of locomotive diesel motors to the Type 4000, which was available with eight, twelve and 16 cylinders and was much more compact than the massive TB10 and TB11. In the 218, the 16-cylinder MTU 16V 4000 R40 and R41 was used for repowering, of which DB AG ordered 80 units. The engines are set for an output of 2682 hp at 1800 more…

BR 216 Caterpillar 3516  LokSound 5 factory equipped sounds N XL L M4

In the early 2000s, the construction company Wiebe acquired the three former DB-216 032, 068 and 122 through several intermediaries. Since the locomotives were no longer to be used for passenger trains, the steam boiler was removed and an additional weight installed as compensation. The ex-DB 216 068 locomotive has the internal number 11, but the number 216 012-1 is written on the outside. Since then, the drive has been provided by a Caterpillar diesel engine of the type 3516 DZ TA with an more…
