The 567 prime mover is a line of medium-speed diesel engines manufactured by GM Electro-Motive Division. They were used in many EMD locomotives from 1938-1966 when it was replaced by the EMD 645. The 567 proved to be exceptionally successful in passenger, switching, freight, marine and stationary services. The dual 16 cylinder 567E4 variation was used in the following...

This project is a normal idle version. It has single early exhaust stacks per motor.
File also contains an "Isolation Switch" Mode on F15 when Standing Still.
Pressing F15 while not moving will lower the prime mover and lock the motor. F15 must be turned off to begin moving.
Another Mode is "Reverser In Center Position". When pressing F24 while stopped, the motor will lock so you can throttle through the notches like the prototype in neutral. F24 must be turned off to begin moving.
This project has "Run 8" mode. When turning on F26 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to run 8. Turning off F26 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
This project has "Coast" mode. When turning on F27 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to idle for coasting purposes. Turning off F27 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
You can still use F26 and F27 for manual nothing. You have to keep both F26 and F27 off before pressing F28 to turn on manual notching. Once F28 is on, you can use F26 to notch up and F27 to notch down. F26, F27, and F28 must be turned off to return to normal mode.
This project has "Load" mode. When turning on F29 with F15, F24, F26, F27, F28 off, the prime mover goes into load mode. While you are using load mode, the prime mover will notch up 1 or more notches based on primary load settings(CV104). The throttle notches up using speed instead of requested speed while using the load feature. F29 must be turned off to return to normal mode.

Auto Bell:
Many Second and Third Generation locomotives have been fitted with an Automatic Bell that is triggered when the horn is blown. In MANY cases this cannot even be bypassed on modern locos. Before the FRA mandated this feature on new locomotives the bell was of course turned on and off separately. Some locomotives were delivered with a manual bell and have been converted to an automatic bell. This creates a challenge in sound file creation.
We realize that not every loco with a particular prime mover had this feature. As such we have built in an option to turn the feature on and off. We will set the default in the file to be what is most appropriate for the particular file.

The EMD 645 series engine was an evolution of the earlier 567 series and a precursor to the later 710 series. When the 645 prime mover entered production in 1965, a large series of new locomotive models were introduced. The turbocharged version was used in EMD's 40 Series (GP40, SD40 and SD45) in 3,000 horsepower (2,200 kW), sixteen-cylinder form and in 3,600 horsepower (2,700 kW), twenty-cylinder form. EMD also introduced the Roots-blown 38 Series (GP38, SD38) and turbocharged, twelve-cylinder 39 Series (GP39, SD39). All of these locomotive models extensively share common components and subsystems, thereby significantly reducing cost and increasing interchangeability. The GP38-2 and SD40-2 became the most popular models of the series and among the most popular locomotive models ever built.
This 16cyl 645E3B Turbo sound file would be appropriate for the following locomotives:
SD40-2W, GP40, GP40P, GP40P-2, SD40A, SD45T-2, GP40-2, GP40X, SD40X, SD40-2, F40C, F40PH, F40PH-2, F40PH-2M, SDP40F, SD40-2F
Export locomotives:
GT26MC, GT26CW, GT26CW-1, GT26CW-2, GT26CU-2
Recorded from a SD40-2
This project is a reverser based low idle version. It has a single turbo late (silenced) exhaust stack.
File also contains a "low Idle" Mode on F15 when Standing Still.
Pressing F15 while not moving will lower the prime mover and lock the motor. F15 must be turned off to go to "regular idle" and begin moving.
Another "low Idle" Mode is reverser in center position. When pressing F24 while stopped, you can throttle through the notches like the prototype in neutral. F24 must be turned off to go to "regular idle" and begin moving.

The Uceta GP16s were the result of a Seaboard Coast Line rebuild program upgrading GP7, GP9 and GP18 EMD locomotives. Unlike the GP10 program which retained a 567 16cyl prime mover, GP16s recieved 645 power assemblies. A 4 stack exhaust was also applied in most cases. Most ex GP7's had a 16-645BC prime mover. While ex GP9's in many cases had a 16-645C. In some rare cases some GP16's had a new 16-645E prime mover. US Army GP16's had brand new 645E's in them. Check your prototype. Today, many smaller railroads still use GP16s and it was deemed a rather successful program.

To turn the feature OFF - Auto Bell OFF:
1. Remove the Auto bell sound slot from the function mapping chart
CV31 = 16, CV32 = 8
----------------------
CV311 = 4
2. Change the sound configuration of the Auto bell sound slot
CV31 = 16, CV32 = 1
----------------------
CV287 = 0
To turn the feature ON - Auto Bell ON:
1. ADD the Auto bell sound slot from the function mapping chart
CV31 = 16, CV32 = 8
----------------------
CV311 = 12
2. Change the sound configuration of the Auto bell sound slot
CV31 = 16, CV32 = 1
----------------------
CV287 = 1
Auto Bell Timer:

The 4-6-0 represents the configuration of four leading wheels on two axles in a leading bogie and six powered and coupled driving wheels on three axles with the absence of trailing wheels. In the mid 19th century, this wheel arrangement became the second most popular configuration for new steam locomotives in the United States of America, where this type is commonly referred to as a Ten-wheeler. As a locomotive pulling trains of lightweight all wood passenger cars in the 1890-1920s, it was exceptionally stable at near 100 mph speeds on the New York Central's New York to Chicago Water Level Route and on the Reading Railroad's Camden to Atlantic City, NJ, line. As passenger equipment grew heavier with all steel construction, heavier locomotives replaced the Ten Wheeler.
During the second half of the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth centuries, the 4-6-0 was constructed in large numbers for passenger and mixed traffic service. A natural extension of the 4-4-0 American wheel arrangement, the four-wheel leading bogie gave good stability at speed and allowed a longer boiler to be supported, while the lack of trailing wheels gave a high adhesive weight.
The primary limitation of the type was the small size of the firebox, which limited power output. In passenger service, it was eventually superseded by the 4-6-2 Pacific type whose trailing truck allowed it to carry a greatly enlarged firebox.

The ESU Full Throttle Steam files now include a few new logic features for added operational realism while still leaving you in control of HOW YOU wish to run your locomotive.
Heavy Load: F9 by default.
Similar to the “Drive Hold” button on the Full Throttle Diesel files “Heavy Load” allows you to adjust the “Steam Cut Off Valve” at any speed allowing for a fierce full chuff or drifting with snifters and rod clanks. Heavy load can also act as an offset allowing speed adjustments when engaged if desired.
Coast: F4 by default.
Opposite of “Heavy Load” Coast allows for a negative offset allow drifting sounds of Rods and snifter valves at any speed. You again have the option to hold the speed to adjust the speed with this offset active. Even allowing for an increase of speed with no chuffs as if drifting downhill.
Independent brake: F10 by default
Identical to the Full Throttle Diesel files. This allows for the locomotive to stop more quickly than its regular momentum would normally carry it. This one is pretty self-explanatory – just press the brake and come to a stop! For additional options there are 3 Braking rates that can be set up for user preference.
Articulation: Sound Slot 2
By adding Sound Slot 2 to the F8 Function Mapping and enabling the "Secondary Trigger" (CV250) you can add a second set of drivers making any ESU Steam File articulated.
Function Mappable Air Horn: F21 by default
Sound Slot 21.
Many Steam locomotives had a single chime airhorn equipped. Those modelling SP, MILW, and others can now have this feature and put it where they would like in the function mapping in addition to the whistle.

The Denver and Rio Grande Western K-36 class are ten 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge 2-8-2 "Mikado" type steam locomotives built for the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad (D&RGW) by Baldwin Locomotive Works. They were shipped to the Rio Grande in 1925 and were first used along the Monarch Branch and Marshall Pass, but were later sent to the Third Division out of Alamosa. Of the original ten, four are owned by the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (D&SNG) and five by the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad (C&TS). Number 485 fell into the turntable pit at Salida and was scrapped in Pueblo in 1955, with many parts being saved.
The locomotives are of outside-frame design, with the driving wheels placed between the two chassis frames which support the boiler, but with the cylinders, driving rods, counterweights and valve gear on the outside. This general arrangement is shared with the earlier K-27, K-28 and later K-37 Mikado engines.

We would like to give a special thanks to the Reading and Northern Railroad for their help in this project.
Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad 425 is a 4-6-2 light "Pacific" type steam locomotive originally built in 1928 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the Gulf, Mobile & Northern Railroad. After the GM&N was consolidated into the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio Railroad in 1940, the locomotive was renumbered #580 and served in passenger service before being retired in 1950. Today, the locomotive is owned and operated by the Reading & Northern Railroad, based out of Port Clinton, Pennsylvania in excursion service.
While recorded from a light pacific 4-6-2 this file can be used for smaller locomotives in many wheel arrangments.

The EMD GP39 is a 4-axle diesel locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between 1969 and 1970. 23 examples of this locomotive were built for American railroads. Twenty of the original 23 were built for the Chesapeake & Ohio, while the other buyers were Kennecott Copper (2) and Atlanta & St. Andrews Bay (1). The power for this locomotive was provided by a turbocharged 12-cylinder EMD 645E3B diesel engine, which could produce 2,300 horsepower.
GP39, GP39-2, SD39, SDL39, CIE 071, EMD GT22, British Rail Class 57, V/Line N class, New Zealand DFT class, JT22CW, V/Line A class
This would also be VERY close to a GP49.

This project is a normal idle version. It has a single turbo early exhaust stack.
You can still use F26 and F27 for manual notching.
Prime mover volume selection mode. By default the prime mover has volume dynamics. Meaning idle is soft while notch 8 is loud. This is very prototypical. The next option is volume maxed out. Meaning idle and notch 8 are the same volume. This is more suitable for people who like it loud.

Between 1981 and 1983 Chessie rebuilt 67 EMD GP30 locomotives.
These were B&O and C&O GP30 units that went through Chessie's rebuilding program at both the Huntington and Cumberland shops. After rebuilding Chessie did not renumber the units, but CSX decided to give them their own number series once they took ownership.
GP-30Ms were internally rewired with some modular components similar to Dash 2 units. They also recieved new IDAC wheel slip control, D77 traction motors, and cab heaters. The orginal 567D prime mover retained turbocharging, but also recieved 645 Power Assemblies.
