In the 1950s Deutsche Reichsbahn DR of GDR needed a high-speed locomotive to test new passenger cars. The testing department of DR developed the 18 201 out of tank loco 61 002, a new boiler (out of “Reko” re-design programme) and the cylinders of a test loco. The loco develops 1590 HP and reaches a maximum speed of 176 km/h. 18 201 is the fastest operable steam locomotive in the world.

In 1908 the locomotive factory J.A. Maffei was commissioned by the Royal Bavarian State Railway to develop a new express locomotive based on the IVf delivered to the Baden State Railway. The Ivh of Badische Staatsbahn, later the 18³ series, was purchased from 1918 as an express steam locomotive primarily for the Rhine Valley Railway Basel - Mannheim. For new electric locomotive class 187 Bombardier used its experience with American ALP-45DP locos. The 187 develops 5600 kW reaches a speed of 140 km/h. The customer has the choice between four electric and one diesel electric versions. The locos develop 5200 kW (DC version) or 6400 kW (single AC, DC+AC version). Between 2002 and 2011 manufacturer delievered 181 samples to ÖBB and several european private owners. The MTU 16 V 4000 R41 develops 2000 kW and enables the loco to reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h.



F5 enables the heavy load mode: The diesel notch is always one up compared with normal operation. If you want to jump two notches, simply set CV 104 to 170 (instead of 150).
