14480.1 - Beacon Version
The ALCO 251 prime mover was the most popular and abundant prime mover ever made by the company. While it proved to be quite successful, it sadly outlived its original manufacturer, ALCO who closed their doors in 1969. The 251 prime mover is actually still available to purchase today from Fairbanks Morse for use in Marine, Generator, and locomotive uses.
The 1500 horsepower 8cyl version of the 251F could be found in the following locomotives:
C-415
The C415 was a large switcher or small road switcher equipped with a raised cab mounted slightly off-center, with a lower, narrower hood on either side. The longer one contained the diesel engine, a 1,500 hp (1.1 MW) eight-cylinder turbocharged Alco 251-F, while the shorter contained auxiliaries. The C415 could be ordered with three different cab heights; a low one for minimum clearances, a regular height one, and an extra-height one for maximum visibility.
Trucks fitted were either Type B road trucks or ALCO Hi-Ad (high adhesion).

This project is a normal idle version. It has a single exhaust stack.
File also contains an "Isolation Switch" Mode on F15 when Standing Still.
Pressing F15 while not moving will lower the prime mover and lock the motor. F15 must be turned off to begin moving.
Another Mode is "Reverser In Center Position". When pressing F24 while stopped, the motor will lock so you can throttle through the notches like the prototype in neutral. F24 must be turned off to begin moving.
This project has "Run 8" mode. When turning on F26 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to run 8. Turning off F26 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
This project has "Coast" mode. When turning on F27 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to idle for coasting purposes. Turning off F27 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
You can still use F26 and F27 for manual notching. You have to keep both F26 and F27 off before pressing F28 to turn on manual notching. Once F28 is on, you can use F26 to notch up and F27 to notch down. F26, F27, and F28 must be turned off to return to normal mode.
This project has "Load" mode. When turning on F29 with F15, F24, F26, F27, F28 off, the prime mover goes into load mode. While you are using load mode, the prime mover will notch up 1 or more notches based on primary load settings(CV104). The throttle notches up using speed instead of requested speed while using the load feature. F29 must be turned off to return to normal mode.
Prime mover volume selection mode. By default the prime mover has volume dynamics. Meaning idle is soft while notch 8 is loud. This is very prototypical. The next option is volume maxed out. Meaning idle and notch 8 are the same volume. This is more suitable for people who like it loud.

Auto Bell:
Many Second and Third Generation locomotives have been fitted with an Automatic Bell that is triggered when the horn is blown. In MANY cases this cannot even be bypassed on modern locos. Before the FRA mandated this feature on new locomotives the bell was of course turned on and off separately. Some locomotives were delivered with a manual bell and have been converted to an automatic bell. This creates a challenge in sound file creation.
We realize that not every loco with a particular prime mover had this feature. As such we have built in an option to turn the feature on and off. We will set the default in the file to be what is most appropriate for the particular file.
To turn the feature OFF - Auto Bell OFF:
1. Remove the Auto bell sound slot from the function mapping chart

Kato USA N Scale SC-44 Charger
The Siemens Charger is a family of diesel-electric passenger locomotives designed and manufactured by Siemens Mobility for the North American market. There are four models of Chargers: the SC-44 for state-supported inter-city services, the SCB-40 for Brightline inter-city service, the SC-42 for VIA corridor service, and the ALC-42 for Amtrak long distance service.
The first production SC-44 was unveiled on March 26, 2016, and entered revenue service on August 24, 2017, followed by the SCB-40, which inaugurated Brightline service on January 13, 2018. The first ALC-42 was delivered to Amtrak on June 17, 2021 and entered revenue service on February 8, 2022 on the Empire Builder.
The Charger is powered by a Cummins 16-cylinder QSK95 4-stroke high speed diesel engine, which meets EPA Tier IV emissions standards that took effect in 2015.[4] Power output varies by model: the SCB-40 produces 4,000 hp (3,000 kW),[5][6] the SC-44 produces 4,400 hp (3,300 kW), and both the SC-42 and ALC-42 produce 4,200 hp (3,100 kW).[7][8] The maximum speed in service is 125 mph (201 km/h).[9]
The locomotive shares much of its overall design with the Siemens Vectron diesel and electric locomotives used in Europe and the Siemens ACS-64 electric locomotive built for Amtrak and SEPTA.

This file has a Special feature providing the sounds and operation of the Head End Power unit. This is used on the prototype loco to provide electricity to the coaches as these locos are almost always used in passenger service.
To engage HEP you must be stopped in Idle. Pressing F7 (Shift 2) will engage the HEP unit.
The lighting has been modified to represent the lighting on the prototype.
This includes LED ditchlights that are timed to the prototype. They also do not fade in and fade out like the prototype.
The function mapping has been set to include the HEP, and special lighting of the models on the market. Including: Strobe Lights, Red Marker Lights, and Carbody Interior Lighting.
The ALC-42 and SC-42 have the ability to play the horn with Full Air, or Half Air. We have included the Full Air Horns on F2, and the Half Air Horn on F3. CV163 will change between them. Only the horns recorded from the ALC-42 have this feature. CV163 at a value of 4 or above will play the ALC-42 Half Air K5LA on F3.

As a note, VIA RAIL ALC42s do not have a grade crossing sequencer on the floor. There is a button that plays the horn on the floor, but is the same as the horn on the console. While we have included them in the sequencer pack above, we realize this is not prototypical on those locomotives.

The EMD 567 is a line of large medium-speed diesel engines built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division. The EMD 567 16cyl Prime Mover was one of the most widely used Prime Movers in the world and was used from 1938 until its replacement n 1966. From F-Units to Geeps this popular power house can still be found in many locomotives riding the rails today. Alle 567 engines are two-stroke V-engines with an angle of 45° between cylinder banks, a bore of 8,5 in (216mm) and a stroke of 10 in (254mm). The 567BC was roots blown and had a power output of 1500 hp (1119 kW).
This 16cyl 567BC sound file would be appropriate for the following locomotives:
FP7, FP9, FL9, FT, F2, F3, F7, F9, GP7, GP8, GP9, GP10, GP11, BL2, GP18, GP28, SD7, SD9, SD18, SD28

From F-Units to Geeps this popular power house can still be found in many locomotives riding the rails today. Alle 567 engines are two-stroke V-engines with an angle of 45° between cylinder banks, a bore of 8,5 in (216mm) and a stroke of 10 in (254mm). The 567BC was roots blown and had a power output of 1500 hp (1119 kW).
This 16cyl 567BC sound file would be appropriate for the following locomotives:
FP7, FP9, FL9, FT, F2, F3, F7, F9, GP7, GP8, GP9, GP10, GP11, BL2, GP18, GP28, SD7, SD9, SD18, SD28

This project is a normal idle version. It has 2 exhaust stacks.
File also contains an "Isolation Switch" Mode on F15 when Standing Still.
Pressing F15 while not moving will lower the prime mover and lock the motor. F15 must be turned off to begin moving.
Another Mode is "Reverser In Center Position". When pressing F24 while stopped, the motor will lock so you can throttle through the notches like the prototype in neutral. F24 must be turned off to begin moving.
This project has "Run 8" mode. When turning on F26 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to run 8. Turning off F26 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
This project has "Coast" mode. When turning on F27 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to idle for coasting purposes. Turning off F27 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.

Many Second and Third Generation locomotives have been fitted with an Automatic Bell that is triggered when the horn is blown. In MANY cases this cannot even be bypassed on modern locos. Before the FRA mandated this feature on new locomotives the bell was of course turned on and off separately. Some locomotives were delivered with a manual bell and have been converted to an automatic bell. This creates a challenge in sound file creation.
We realize that not every loco with a particular prime mover had this feature. As such we have built in an option to turn the feature on and off. We will set the default in the file to be what is most appropriate for the particular file.
To turn the feature OFF - Auto Bell OFF:

In the Mid 1980s GE changed it's 16cyl FDL design to include a different exhaust silencer, a new electric compressor often known as the "Whoop compressor" and changed some of the electronics of their locomotives. These differences among a few other led to a distinct change in the sounds from the GE 16cyl FDL often found from the U25Bs on through the Dash-7 series of the Locomotives.

They share the same carbody design and many of the internal components as the Dash-9 series, except they are equipped with AC traction motors instead of the conventional DC versions. The GE Dash 8-32BWH, also known as the P32-8BWH, B32-8WH, or P32 DASH-8, is a passenger train locomotive used by Amtrak, based on GE's Dash 8 series of freight train locomotives. Built in 1991, they were the first locomotives purchased to replace the EMD F40PH.
The Dash 8-32BWH operates in a diesel-electric configuration that uses DC to power the traction motors, producing 3,200 hp (2,400 kW) at 1047 rpm. When providing head end power to the train, the engine is speed locked to 900 rpm. Power output to the traction motors is 2,700 hp (2,000 kW) when running in HEP mode with a 0 kW HEP load. Traction horsepower decreases to a bare minimum of 1,685 hp (1,257 kW) when providing the maximum 800 kW (1,100 hp) HEP load to the train.
The Dash 8-32BWH has a 74:29 gear ratio, resulting in a maximum operating speed of 103 mph (166 km/h) in passenger operation.

This file has a Special feature providing the sounds and operation of the Head End Power unit. This is used on the prototype loco to provide electricity to the coaches as these locos are almost always used in passenger service.
To engage HEP you must be stopped in Idle. Pressing F26 (Shift 2) will engage the HEP unit and allow the prime mover to run at a higher RPM.
When in stations often the engineer will go into Standby mode to preserve fuel and to allow the noise levels to come down a little. Pressing F27 on the throttle once HEP has already been engaged will allow the prime mover to come down a little. Again this can only be done while sitting still as on the prototype there is not enough RPM to provide power to the coaches and traction motors at the same time in Standy Mode.

The GE FDL-16 prime mover was first used in 1959 in the General Electric U25B locomotive. Over the years little changed in terms of sound until the "Dash-8" series of GE locomotives was introduced. Known for their throaty chug and shaft driven compressor (rather than the more modern “Whoop” electric compressor) , the following GE locomotives used the early 16cyl FDL prime mover:

This project is a normal idle version. It has a single early exhaust stack.
File also contains an "Isolation Switch" Mode on F15 when Standing Still.
Pressing F15 while not moving will lower the prime mover and lock the motor. F15 must be turned off to begin moving.
Another Mode is "Reverser In Center Position". When pressing F24 while stopped, the motor will lock so you can throttle through the notches like the prototype in neutral. F24 must be turned off to begin moving.
This project has "Run 8" mode. When turning on F26 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to run 8. Turning off F26 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
This project has "Coast" mode. When turning on F27 with F28 off, the prime mover goes to idle for coasting purposes. Turning off F27 returns the prime mover sounds back to normal mode.
You can still use F26 and F27 for manual notching. You have to keep both F26 and F27 off before pressing F28 to turn on manual notching. Once F28 is on, you can use F26 to notch up and F27 to notch down. F26, F27, and F28 must be turned off to return to normal mode.
This project has "Load" mode. When turning on F29 with F15, F24, F26, F27, F28 off, the prime mover goes into load mode. While you are using load mode, the prime mover will notch up 1 or more notches based on primary load settings(CV104). The throttle notches up using speed instead of requested speed while using the load feature. F29 must be turned off to return to normal mode.
Prime mover volume selection mode. By default the prime mover has volume dynamics. Meaning idle is soft while notch 8 is loud. This is very prototypical. The next option is volume maxed out. Meaning idle and notch 8 are the same volume. This is more suitable for people who like it loud.

Auto Bell:
Many Second and Third Generation locomotives have been fitted with an Automatic Bell that is triggered when the horn is blown. In MANY cases this cannot even be bypassed on modern locos. Before the FRA mandated this feature on new locomotives the bell was of course turned on and off separately. Some locomotives were delivered with a manual bell and have been converted to an automatic bell. This creates a challenge in sound file creation.
We realize that not every loco with a particular prime mover had this feature. As such we have built in an option to turn the feature on and off. We will set the default in the file to be what is most appropriate for the particular file.
To turn the feature OFF - Auto Bell OFF:
1. Remove the Auto bell sound slot from the function mapping chart

Atlas GP38
The EMD 645 family of diesel engines were designed and manufactured by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors. The 645 series was an evolution of the earlier 567 series and a precursor to the later 710 series. The 645 series engines entered production in 1965. All 645 engines utilize forced induction, with either a Roots blower or a turbocharger. The 645 series has a maximum engine speed of between 900 and 950 revolutions per minute (rpm), an increase over the 800 to 900 rpm maximum speed for the 567 series.

Lizenzvereinbarung
1. Lizenzgewährung
1.1 ESU gewährt Ihnen das nicht übertragbare, eingeschränkte, nicht exklusive Recht, den Inhalt ausschließlich für Ihren persönlichen Gebrauch zu nutzen. Es ist Ihnen gestattet, den Inhalt in einen RAM Speicher zu laden oder auf einer Festplatte oder einem anderen Speichermedium in einem Computer, Hardwareprodukt oder mobilen Gerät in Ihrem Besitz oder unter Ihrer Kontrolle zu installieren. Im Rahmen der Installation dürfen Sie eine (1) Kopie des Inhalts auf Ihrem Computer speichern. In diesem Fall müssen Sie alle Urheberrechts- und Eigentumsnachweise bei der Kopie belassen und sicherstellen, dass die Kopie zusammen mit dem Original in Ihrem Besitz verbleibt.1.2 Durch die Benutzung des Inhalts erlangen Sie keinerlei Eigentumsrecht, Urheberrecht oder andere Recht am Inhalt. Der Inhalt ist lizenziert, nicht verkauft.
1.3 Sie sind berechtigt, die Audioaufnahmen zu benutzen, zu modifizieren und mit Audioaufnahmen Dritter zu kombinieren. Solchermaßen von Ihnen erstellte Audioaufnahmen dürfen Sie an Dritte weitergeben, falls Sie folgende Bedingungen erfüllen: (i) Die Audioaufnahmen wurden von Ihnen insoweit neu gemischt, dass sie eine neues, originales Werk darstellen; (ii) Individuelle ESU Audioaufnahmen werden nicht separat benutzt; (iii) Die Audioaufnahmen oder Teile daraus werden nicht benutzt, um Audiobibliotheken zur Benutzung durch Dritte oder zur Verteilung an Dritte zu erstellen.
2. Verbotene Nutzung
Weder Sie noch Dritte nach Ihrer Anweisung dürfen:2.1 den Inhalt oder Teile davon für jegliche öffentliche Präsentation, Liveübertragung oder zeitlich verzögerte Übertragung zu kommerziellen Zwecken nutzen, ohne vorherige schriftliche Einverständniserklärung von ESU.
2.2 den Inhalt oder Teile davon in einem Konkurrenzprodukt benutzen. Diese Einschränkung bezieht sich insbesondere auf Decoder und Hardware zum Betrieb von Modelleisenbahnen.
2.3 den Inhalt oder Teile davon an Dritte lizenzieren, kopieren, reproduzieren, übertragen, leihen, verkaufen, leasen, in einer pay-per-play Basis anbieten, gegen Bezahlung oder anderer Vergütung verteilen oder anderweitig kommerziell nutzen oder weitergeben.
2.4 Produkte, die den Inhalt oder Teile davon beinhalten, herstellen und/oder gegen Bezahlung anbieten oder anderweitig kommerziell nutzen. Wenn Sie den Inhalt oder Teile davon zur Herstellung, Weiterverkauf, Lizenzierung oder anderweitiger Verteilung verwenden möchten, müssen Sie ESU (falls zutreffend ESU Lizenznehmer) kontaktieren und eine entsprechende Vereinbarung mit ESU (falls zutreffend ESU Lizenznehmer) eingehen.
2.5 die Ergebnisse jeglicher Untersuchungen oder vergleichenden Studien des Inhalts oder Teile davon veröffentlichen ohne vorherige schriftliche Einverständniserklärung von ESU.
2.6 den Inhalt oder Teile davon rückentwickeln (Reverse engineering), rekompilieren oder zerlegen. Dies ist nur in besonderen Fällen und in beschränktem Ausmaß erlaubt, wenn ausdrücklich von ESU oder einem ESU Lizenznehmer schriftlich genehmigt oder per Gesetz gestattet.
3. Urheberrechte
Sie erkennen an, dass alle Urheberrechte am Inhalt bei ESU und ESU Lizenznehmern liegen und dort verbleiben. Sie werden die Rechte von ESU am Inhalt weder aktiv noch durch Unterlassung beeinträchtigen oder schmälern. Sie können von ESU oder ESU Lizenznehmern verantwortlich gemacht werden für jegliche Verletzung am Urheberrecht des Inhalts. Unter der Voraussetzung, dass Sie diese Lizenzvereinbarung einhalten, wird ESU keine Eigentumsrechte an Werken geltend machen, die Sie durch Benutzung des Inhalts schaffen.4. Dauer und Beendigung
Diese Lizenz tritt mit dem ersten Tag der Installierung des Inhalts durch Sie in Kraft. Die Rechte, die Sie durch diese Lizenz erhalten, verfallen sobald Sie die Lizenzvereinbarung verletzen. In diesem Fall stimmen Sie zu, den Inhalt und alle Teile davon zu löschen, einschließlich des Inhalts, der auf der Festplatte jedes Computers unter Ihrer Kontrolle gespeichert ist. Sie können diese Lizenz jederzeit beenden, indem Sie sämtliche Kopien des Inhalts zerstören oder löschen. Jegliche Beendigung der Lizenz (wie auch immer zustande gekommen) hat keinen Einfluss auf Rechte und Verbindlichkeiten von Ihnen und ESU und berührt nicht die Einhaltung und den Fortbestand der Regelungen in Paragraphen 2, 3, 5 und 6 und jeglicher Auswirkungen dieser Regeln, implizit oder explizit auch nach Beendigung der Lizenz.5. Keine Garantien
ESU und ESU Lizenznehmer stellen den Inhalt "wie gesehen" bereit und schließen jegliche Garantie, soweit gesetzlich erlaubt, aus. Insbesondere wird keine Garantie dafür übernommen, dass der Inhalt eine bestimmte Qualität besitzt oder für einen bestimmten Zweck geeignet ist. Weder ESU noch ESU Lizenznehmer garantieren, dass die Ausführung des Inhalts ohne Unterbrechungen, fehlerfrei oder virusfrei abläuft und Ihren speziellen Anforderungen entspricht. Es ist möglich, dass Sie andere Rechte haben, die je nach Gesetzgebung variieren können.6. Verantwortung von ESU
Weder ESU noch ESU Lizenznehmer können haftbar gemacht werden für jegliche Schäden, die direkt oder indirekt mit dem Inhalt oder Teilen davon in Verbindung stehen. Haftung durch ESU oder ESU Lizenznehmer wird nur dann und auch nur in dem Umfang übernommen, indem sie sich gesetzlich nicht ausschließen lässt. Keinesfalls kann ESU oder ESU Lizenznehmer haftbar gemacht werden für Schäden des Geschäfts, der Daten, des Profits, des Vermögens oder anderer besonderer indirekter ökonomischer Schäden.7. Allgemeines
7.1 Sie erkennen an, dass unter Umständen Schadenszahlungen alleine nicht ausreichend sind, um einen Bruch dieser Lizenzvereinbarung zu ahnden, und dass Einstweilige Verfügungen und andere rechtliche Mittel herangezogen werden können.7.2 Sie dürfen keine Rechte, die Ihnen in Rahmen dieser Lizenz übertragen worden sind, an Dritte weitergeben oder Dritten gewähren.
7.3 ESU ist nicht verpflichtet, Ihnen Gewährleistung, technische Unterstützung oder Upgrades bereit zu stellen.
7.4 Sie stimmen zu, alle zutreffenden Einfuhr- und Ausfuhrbeschränkungen einzuhalten und erkennen an, dass Sie alleine verantwortlich sind, alle notwendigen Lizenzen zum Export, Re-Export, Transfer oder Import des Inhalts zu erlangen.
7.5 Diese Lizenz stellt die vollständige Lizenzvereinbarung zwischen Ihnen und ESU bezüglich des betreffenden Inhalts dar und setzt alle vorherigen Vereinbarungen außer Kraft. Ergänzungen oder Änderungen dieser Lizenz sind nur dann gültig, wenn sie schriftlich vorliegen und von Ihnen und einem dazu befugten Repräsentanten von ESU unterzeichnet sind.
7.6 Keine Unterlassung, Aufschub oder Nachsicht durch jegliche Partei betreffend der Durchsetzung dieser Lizenzvereinbarung hat Auswirkungen oder Einschränkungen hinsichtlich der Rechte dieser Partei. Eine Tolerierung einer Lizenzverletzung durch eine Partei kann nicht als Präzedenzfall für eine spätere Lizenzverletzung herangezogen werden.
7.7 Im Falle, dass diese Lizenzvereinbarung oder ein beliebiger Teil eines Paragraphen sich als illegal oder nicht durchsetzbar erweist, bleiben die anderen Teile des Paragraphen und der Rest dieser Lizenzvereinbarung davon unberührt und weiterhin gültig.
