V100.10 MTU 12V 652 TA N XL L M4

In 1962 German State Railway DB ordered 380 samples of dieselhydraulic loco V100.20 (later BR 212). The MB 835 Ab diesel develops 1350 HP at 1500 rpm and enables the loco to reach a maximum speed of 100 km/h. 10 more locos were equiped with additional brake for service on steep grades. Those locos were named V100.23 (later BR 213).

BR 704 N XL L M4

In 1977, based on the VT 627, the German Deutsche Bundesbahn DB ordered five test vehicles of the four-axle catenary inspection rail car 704. The four-axle vehicles, classed as BR 704, had a diesel-hydraulic power transmission. Propulsion was initially provided by two identical, independent drive systems with Deutz twelve-cylinder diesel engines, one of which was replaced by a more modern and lower-emission Deutz engine from 1986 onwards. The 140 km/h four-axle vehicles were intended to replace more…

18 323 N XL L M4

The Ivh of Badische Staatsbahn, later the 18³ series, was purchased from 1918 as an express steam locomotive primarily for the Rhine Valley Railway Basel - Mannheim. The manufacturer of all 20 machines was the renowned Munich locomotive factory J.A. Maffei. The IVh was designed as a 4-cylinder composite engine. The balanced drive made her a fast cross-country skier and the top speed could be increased from the original 110 km/h to 140 km/h. The use of the 18.3 on the famous Rheingold Express more…

Stadler Euro Dual / BR159 N XL L M4

Instead of equipping electric locomotives with just a diesel power pack (last mile package), which enables them to be used independently of the driving current, for example on sidings, Stadler developed the EuroDual, which carries a full-fledged diesel engine. The EuroDual, run as the 159 series, runs purely electrically under the 15 kV-16 2/3 Hz system as well as in the AC and DC networks commonly used in France. Depending on the operating mode, traction power between 6150 kW and 7000 kW is more…

T18 SNCF Ep.III N XL L M4

Between 1915 and 1918, the Reichseisenbahnen Elsass-Lothringen (EL) procured a total of 27 examples of the 1140 hp Prussian tank locomotive T18. After the First World War, 26 of these were transferred to the now French successor railway Chemins de Fer d'Alsace et de Lorraine (A.L.) while retaining the original numbers. Only rarely did the reliable locomotives leave Alsatian territory. Like the German railways, the A.L. changed the brake system on their T18 and allowed the machines to run at 100 more…

E94 N XL L M4

In the late 1930s the German DRG wanted to increase the weight of freight trains. Therefor six axle E94 had been developed. During WWII 146 samples were built. The six motor locos develop 3300 kW and reach a maximum speed of 90 km/h. After the war 44 locos were overtaken by Austrian Railway OEBB, another 23 were refitted by DR of German Democratic Republic of Germany. After building some new locos till 1956 the DB used 124 locos for heavy freight service. Sometimes the locos could be seen also more…

BR 218 N XL L M4

The classes (BR) 215 and 218 diesel locomotives of the Western German Railway (DB) are used in mixed service since 1968.

218 101 to 194, 218 242 to 288 were equipped with a 12 cylinder 4 stroke main Diesel from MAN that was later called MTU 12 V 956 TB10 that generates 2500 HP. The 2800 HP version of this motor is called MTU 12 V 956 TB11.

In the late 1980s the exhaust system of BR 218 with the 12 V motor had been optimized. Since 1995 many of the 218 are equipped with motors called "MTU 12 more…

BR 216 / V160 N XL L M4

In 1964 series production of dieselhydraulic main line loco V160 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn DB started. The four axle loco was driven by a 16 cylinder diesel motor MB 16V 652 TB. The 1900-HP-locos were used in medium passenger and freight duty and reached a maximum speed of 120 km/h.
