GE 8-7FDL8D2 N XL L M4

The GE U18B was introduced by GE as a branch line roadswitcher in 1973. Easy to spot due to its relatively short length — 54 ft 8 in (16.66 m) — it was the only North American locomotive powered by the 8-cylinder FDL engine.

There were some export locomotives built with this prime mover:
SG10B, U15C, U17C, U20C, and the C18-7i

The U18B was not well recieved as only 5 railroads bought the locomotive, with one railroad only purchasing 1 unit, for total of 163 units produced. The Seaboard Coast more…

EMD 20-710G3B LATE EXH T Ed2 N XL L M4

The SD80MAC is a 5000 horsepower C-C diesel-electric locomotive. The SD80MAC uses a 20 cylinder version of EMD's 710G prime mover, formally known as the V-20 710G3B-ES and is the first diesel locomotive to use a 20-cylinder engine since the SD45/SD45-2. The SD80MAC introduced a wide radiator housing similar to GE locomotives and the placement of dynamic brakes at the rear of the locomotive. Key spotting difference between the SD80MAC and SD90MAC include: no external rear sandbox on the 90MAC, more…

The GP50 was produced in response to increasingly tough competition from GE Transportation Systems, whose Dash 7 line was proving quite successful with railroads. While EMD's SD40-2 was a reliable and trusted product, GE's line included locomotives up to 3,600 hp (2,685 kW) with more modern technology, as well as very competitive finance and maintenance deals. EMD responded throughout the SD50 program by offering discounts on large orders.

GM-EMD had previously produced 3,600 hp (2,685 kW) more…

EMD 8-567C NT N XL L M4

The EMD 567 family of Prime Mover was one of the most widely used in the world! From F-Units to Geeps this popular power house can still be found in many locomotives riding the rails today. Our EMD 8cyl version of the 567 would be appropriate for the following locomotives:

SW8, SW900, G8, GA8, GL8, JL8, And others.....

Recorded from a EMD SW8

This project is a normal idle version. It is an air throttle version. It has switcher type exhaust with a single exhaust stack.

File also contains an more…

Goodwin/ALCO 12-244 N XL L M4

In October 1956 the NSWGR took delivery of 4301, the first unit of an order for six locomotives to be built by A Goninan and Co at their Broadmeadow plant in suburban Newcastle. In June 1957 the last of the class, 4306, entered service. They were fitted with an Alco 244 engine and were rated at 1600hp (1193kW) for traction.

While recorded from a 43 Class this 12cyl 244 prime mover sound file would also work in the following locomotives.

RS-2, RSC-2, RS-3, RSC-3, RS-10, RSC-2, RSC-3, RSD-4, more…

BLW 6-606A N XL L M4

Baldwin 606A Prime Movers were used in a few Baldwin prototypes.

RS-12, S-12

Recorded from a BLW S-12

This project is a normal idle version. It is an air throttle version. It has a single exhaust stack.

File also contains an "Isolation Switch" Mode on F15 when Standing Still.
Pressing F15 while not moving will lower the prime mover and lock the motor. F15 must be turned off to begin moving.

Another Mode is "Reverser In Center Position". When pressing F24 while stopped, the motor will more…

The 567 prime mover is a line of medium-speed diesel engines manufactured by GM Electro-Motive Division. They were used in many EMD locomotives from 1938-1966 when it was replaced by the EMD 645. The 567 proved to be exceptionally successful in passenger, switching, freight, marine and stationary services. The 16 cylinder 567D1 variation could be found in the following locomotives:

FL9, GP18, GP28, SD18, SD28

Recorded from a EMD SD18

This project is a normal idle version. It has 2 exhaust more…

Dual CAT 8-D17000 N XL L M4

The GE 44-ton switcher is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Electric between 1940 and 1956. The locomotives were available with a choice of prime movers. Most were built with a pair of Caterpillar Inc.'s D17000 V8 180 horsepower (134 kW) engines. It was designed for industrial and light switching duties, often replacing steam locomotives that had previously been assigned these chores. This locomotive's specific 44-short ton weight was directly related to one of the more…

EMD Dual 16-645E3A 2EXH T N XL L M4

The Dual EMD 16cyl 645E3A prime movers were used in Union Pacific's DDA40X locomotive. Each of the two prime mover provides 3,300 hp. The DDA40X is the most powerful single-unit locomotive ever built.

As the DDA40X program was a test, a number of experiments were conducted during the service life of these locomotives. One such test included fitting a few of the units with air raid sirens to warn track-side personnel when away from grade crossings, but the results were inconclusive. Another of more…

Cooper Bessemer 6-FW-6-LT N XL L M4

General Electric produced the 70-ton switcher as a complement to its 44-ton model. The idea behind the development of the 70-tonner was to provide a locomotive suitable for branch lines, switching and transfer service. To be a success, the locomotive had to satisfy certain criteria. It had to be:

• Light enough to run on 50-pound rail and light bridges,
• Powerful enough to move long cuts of cars in switching or road hauls.
and
• Fast enough to make light passenger runs.

The 44-tonner could more…
