The GE B23-7 diesel locomotive was first offered in late 1977. Featuring a smaller 12 cylinder version of the FDL engine, it is the successor to GE's U23B produced from early 1968 to mid 1977, but at 62 ' 2" long, the B23-7 is exactly 2' 0" longer than the firms U23B. The B23-7 competed with the very successful EMD GP38-2. General Electric also produced a variant, the BQ23-7, for the Seaboard Coast Line. A total of 537 B23-7's were built for 9 U.S. customers and 2 Mexican customers.

Unlike our 75405 Early 12cyl 7FDL which is correct for The "U-Series" locomotives, this 12cyl 7FDL is more appropriate for the "Dash-7 Series" of GE locomotives. We will also release a "Dash-8 Series" in the near future.
While this prime mover is not completely accurate for the following locomotives it would also be an suitable alternative to break up the monotony on your railroad.

In the Mid 1980s GE changed it's 16cyl FDL design to include a different exhaust silencer, a new electric compressor often known as the "Whoop compressor" and changed some of the electronics of their locomotives. These differences among a few other led to a distinct change in the sounds from the GE 16cyl FDL often found from the U25Bs on through the Dash-7 series of the Locomotives.
GE's AC series of locomotives were introducted in 1994. They share the same carbody design and many of the internal components as the Dash-9 series, except they are equipped with AC traction motors instead of the conventional DC versions. The cab air conditioner was moved from the left (conductor's) side walkway to a position under the cab floor to make space for the six traction inverters (one per axle) that supply the AC current to the traction motors.

The GE FDL-16 prime mover was first used in 1959 in the General Electric U25B locomotive. Over the years little changed in terms of sound until the "Dash-8" series of GE locomotives was introduced. Known for their throaty chug and shaft driven compressor (rather than the more modern “Whoop” electric compressor). There was an interim period following the "U Boats" that began the era in GE called the "Dash-7s". During this time many locos started receiving exhaust silencers and the shape of the exhaust changed to the "Bathtub" type. This created a subtle change in sound. The following GE locomotives used the 16cyl FDL prime mover with this type of configuration.

The GE U18B was introduced by GE as a branch line roadswitcher in 1973. Easy to spot due to its relatively short length — 54 ft 8 in (16.66 m) — it was the only North American locomotive powered by the 8-cylinder FDL engine.
There were some export locomotives built with this prime mover:
SG10B, U15C, U17C, U20C, and the C18-7i
The U18B was not well recieved as only 5 railroads bought the locomotive, with one railroad only purchasing 1 unit, for total of 163 units produced. The Seaboard Coast Line Railroad (SCL) bought 105 U18Bs, far more than the second-best U.S. customer, the Maine Central Railroad (MEC), which ordered 10. Most of the SCL and MEC U18Bs rode on refurbished Blomberg trucks, recycled from old EMD locomotives, making the U18B even more visually distinct from other GE locomotives.

The GE 44-ton switcher is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Electric between 1940 and 1956. The locomotives were available with a choice of prime movers. Most were built with a pair of Caterpillar Inc.'s D17000 V8 180 horsepower (134 kW) engines. It was designed for industrial and light switching duties, often replacing steam locomotives that had previously been assigned these chores. This locomotive's specific 44-short ton weight was directly related to one of the efficiencies the new diesel locomotives offered compared to their steam counterparts: reduced labour intensity. In the 1940s, the steam to diesel transition was in its infancy in North America, and railroad unions were trying to protect the locomotive fireman jobs that were redundant with diesel units. One measure taken to this end was a stipulation that locomotives weighing 90,000 pounds (41,000 kg) or more required a fireman in addition to an engineer. The 44-ton locomotive was born to skirt this requirement. Other manufacturers also built 44-ton switchers of center-cab configuration. 348 examples of this locomotive were built for North American railroads. Many remain, in service and in museums.

Introduced in 2012, General Electric's Tier 4 GEVo Series represents the latest in diesel-electric locomotive technology. The GE Tier 4 GEVo is designed to meet increasingly stringent Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emissions regulations.
The EPA “Tier” emissions standards are a series, or Tiers, of allowable emissions levels based upon a locomotives’ date of manufacture. The highest and most stringent tier level, Tier 4, sets maximum allowable NOx and hydrocarbon emissions levels for locomotives built for domestic use 2015 onward.
While similar in appearance to previous GE GEVo designs, the Tier 4 models featured a longer frame compared to their predecessors. This allows for a larger radiator “cab” (GE refers to the various sections of the long hood as “cabs”), and a "hump" over the engine cab for advanced exhaust treatment equipment.
Initially, a boxy housing filled the entire roofline on the blue-painted field test/demonstrator units. Due to changes in treatment equipment and clearance issues, the "hump" would decrease in size and shape into a boxy compartment around the exhaust on initial production units. This culminated in an angled compartment surrounding the exhaust manifold on the latest production versions (2016+).
Despite boxier engine cab rooflines and a radically styled radiator cab, the basic Tier 4 design shares a family appearance with GE safety cab-equipped units going back to the DASH-9s of the 1990s. It even includes the same 12-cylinder GEVo-12 series prime mover and 4,400hp as its predecessor model.
The Tier 4 units have proven to be popular with the major railroads including BNSF Railway, Canadian National, CSX Transportation, Norfolk Southern, and Union Pacific. While GE has settled on a basic carbody design to keep production costs down, there are notable variations and detail differences due to customer specifications.
With many units built for railroads across the US and in Canada, the Tier 4 GEVo can be seen operating nationwide in a variety of assignments.
File is set up for Flashing Ditchlights. This is not correct for all railroads, for UP, BNSF, and others please change the following CVs to to have ditchlights remain constant when horn is blown.

GE Evolution 12cyl "GEVO" locomotives have a 4 stoke diesel engine and have been designed to be more efficient and more emission friendly than previous models. Evolution Series locomotives are equipped with either AC or DC traction motors, depending on the customer's preference, though admittedly there is little sound difference if any between the two.
All early GEVOs had been delivered with the Nathan Airchime K5HL air horn. Later GEVOs started to recieve a slightly different K5HLL horn. Both are inlcuded with the file. Most if not all have been delivered with a Graham-White 373 E-Bells. This E-Bell is tied to the horn circuit in the locomotive and will play automatically when the horn is played. The ESU version also has this new feature. The bell can be activated by either pressing F1 or by pressing the horn using F2. The "Auto-Bell" can be turned off by removing the the Auto-Bell sound slot from F2. (CV31 = 16, CV32 = 2, CV319 = 0)
Another feature of the prototype is "Smart Start". For the sake of both emissions and fuel savings, all GEVOs have been built with an auto shutdown/auto start feature. After the loco has been idle for a period time, the engine will shut down on its own. If the prime mover cools to a certain temperature the loco will automatically start again to keep from freezing. Our ESU version is also equipped with this "Smart Start" feature. If enabled, after idling for about 5 minutes the engine will shut down. Without doing anything to the throttle, it will start again on its own depending on options set in CV48. If at any time during this shutdown mode you would like to run your loco, just turn the throttle slightly and the engine will go through its start up cycle and then allow you to move it. The feature can also be turned off if it is deemed undesirable. By default this feature is off.
Though all GEVOs were delivered with Nathan K5HL or K5HLL air horns, we've also included a few extra horns in case you wish to use something different. Due to the vast numbers of sounds included in the file we were not able to include our normal 16 horns, but we have included multiple for your choosing. These are selectable by using CV48.
