BR98.10 ex. GtL 4/5 DRG N XL L M4

Between 1929 and 1932, Krauss delivered 45 samples of the type 98.10 two-cylinder local railway locomotive to Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft DRG on behalf of the Bavarian group administration. The locomotives, which largely corresponded technically to the 98.8 (GtL 4/4) delivered from 1923 onwards, were given a trailing axle to increase the top speed and improve the driving characteristics. With an output of 450 hp, the four-couplers were the most powerful Bavarian local railway machines. more…

BR98.3 PtL 2/2 Glaskasten N XL L M4

In the early 1900s, the Royal Bavarian State Railways wanted to rationalize operations on its less busy local railway lines by purchasing small locomotives suitable for one-man operation. The most successful was the PtL2/2 design submitted by Krauss, with 29 units built, which was popularly known as the Glaskasterl (Glass Box) due to its large driver's cab. Krauss delivered three locomotives to the Prussian KPEV also. Two further series of 13 units followed with identical boiler and cylinders, more…

Class 66/77 / EMD JT42CWR N XL L M4

Dampfturbine N XL L M4

For increase of traction power and to gain coal efficiency few locomotive manufacturers had developed steam turbine locomotives in the 1920s till 1940s. In 1926 German Lokomotivfabrik J.A. Maffei for example built the 4-6-2 steamturbine locomotive T18 002 with Ljungstoem drive train. The loco delivered 2000 HP and reached a maximum speed of 120 km/h. Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft DRG used the loco for fast passenger trains till it had been damaged during WW II. Even the most successful steam more…

DB BR101 N XL L M4

In 1994 DB AG had ordered 145 total new four-axle electric loco for fast passenger service. The 6400 HP locos had been delivered between 1996 and 1999 and reach a maximum speed of 220 km/h. DB uses the locos also in freight service in the nights.

DB BR185.2 Traxx F140 AC2 N XL L M4

Bombardier developed the second 185 generation from the 185.1, which goes back to the original Traxx 145. The acoustic difference is mainly due to the modified converter system. The locomotives have an output of 5600 kW and reach a top speed of 140 km/h. Bombardier delivered an impressive 145 of the 393 units built internally as the F140 AC2 to leasing companies and private railways.

DB BR185.2 Traxx F140 MS2 N XL L M4

Apart from the modified crash-optimized locomotive body, the second 185 generation can be distinguished from the first generation by a different noise development. The acoustically striking difference is mainly due to the modified AC converter system. The tripod bearing drive was also retained on the two-system locomotive internally designated as the F140 MS2. Under AC conditions, the four-axle vehicles deliver 5,600 kW and reach a top speed of 140 km/h. Under DC contact lines, the power is more…

DR V100 N XL L M4

The dieselhydraulic V100 (1968 BR 110 – 115, ab 1992 BR 201 – 204, 293) had been developed by VEB Lokomotivbau „Karl Marx“ for GDR state railway DR for multi purpose service on main and branch lines. The traction motors delivered 1000 HP at 1500 rpm and enabled the loco to reach a maximum speed of 100 km/h. The turbocharged engine 12 KVD 21 SVW is similar to the motor of V180/V100.
