BR 245 is the brand new diesel electric multi-motor loco of German State Railway DB. Based on the electric locos BR 145-185 new 245 shares around 75 % of the parts with them. The four Caterpillar CAT C18 diesel motors develop 563 kW each. The loco is able to reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Only sometimes the traction motors need the energy of all of the four motors, so the electronic system decides by itself to start or to switch off motors during operation.

Between 1976 and 1984, British Rail had 135 examples of the six-axle class 56 freight locomotive built. The final production of the first 30 of the series created according to BR plans was carried out with sub-assemblies in Romania at Electroputere. The following locomotives were assembled in England. Only 15 examples of the Class 59 were built for various British freight companies. The construction logistics company Foster Yeoman took over one example in 1997 and had it converted for use in Germany. In 1999 HHPI took over the machine. Technically, the Class 59 with its 2500 kW EMD 16-cylinder 2-stroke diesel engine is a close relative of the US bestseller SD40-2. As a successor to the now aging railbuses VT98, Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) commissioned the development of the single-car 627 for lightly frequented routes starting in 1970. The two-car 628 was intended to replace the three- or four-car VT98. Delivery of the first pre-production vehicles of both types began in 1974. The German Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft DRG ordered six samples of electric driven tower cars for maintainance of catenary between 1929 and 1933. The vehicles delivered 105 kW and reached a maximum speed of 65 km/h if driven full electric under wire. During work at catenary the traction motor was powered by batteries.

In 1964 series production of dieselhydraulic main line loco V160 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn DB started.The four axle loco was driven by a 16 cylinder diesel motor MB 16V 652 TB. The 1900-HP-locos were used in medium passenger and freight duty and reached a maximum speed of 120 km/h.
