BR 45  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

German Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft DRG ordered 28 samples of steam locomotive BR 45 for heavy and fast freight duty. The 3-cylinder locos developed 2800 HP and reached a maximum speed of 90 km/h. After WW II seven locos were given to testing department BZA of Deutsche Bundesbahn to simulate heavy trains during approval runs of new locomotives.

BR 245 Traxx DE ME  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

BR 245 is the brand new diesel electric multi-motor loco of German State Railway DB. Based on the electric locos BR 145-185 new 245 shares around 75 % of the parts with them. The four Caterpillar CAT C18 diesel motors develop 563 kW each. The loco is able to reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Only sometimes the traction motors need the energy of all of the four motors, so the electronic system decides by itself to start or to switch off motors during operation.

BR03.10 DRG/DB/DR Einh. Loks  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

In order to have greater speed reserves when pulling express trains in the 1930s, the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft DRG had the 03.10 developed with streamlined cladding. The acoustics of the 03.10 differ significantly from the two-cylinder standard locomotives of the class 03 with their three-cylinder engine. 45 copies of the 140 km/h fast racer survived World War II. Some of the locomotives were given new replacement boilers, the ones that had not been converted were eliminated until 1957.

BR 95 DRG/DR/DB pr.T20  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

For service on steep grades prussian state railway (KPEV) ordered 45 samples of 2-10-2 steam locos T20. Successor DRG re-numbered them for 95.0. The locos delivered 1620 HP and reach a maximum speed of 65 km/h. The powerful locos were used for short line passenger and freight service. After WW II 14 locos were used by DB till 1958. DR rebuilt 24 samples with oil firing equipment and used them till 1981.

BR98.10 ex. GtL 4/5 DRG  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

Between 1929 and 1932, Krauss delivered 45 samples of the type 98.10 two-cylinder local railway locomotive to Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft DRG on behalf of the Bavarian group administration. The locomotives, which largely corresponded technically to the 98.8 (GtL 4/4) delivered from 1923 onwards, were given a trailing axle to increase the top speed and improve the driving characteristics. German Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft DRG ordered 10 samples of four axle steam locomotive for shunting service in 1928. The two cylinder locos BR 81 developed 860 HP and reached a maximum speed of 45 km/h. In 1963 final loco quitted service at DB.

E50 / BR 150  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

In 1957 German State Railway (DB) introduced it’s most powerful member of the so called “Einheits” electro locomotive family. The massive six axle six motor locomotives delivered 4500 kW and reached a maximum speed of 100 km/h. In 2003 last remaining 150 quitted service, but two locos are preserved in DB Museum.

DB BR185.2 Traxx F140 AC2  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

Bombardier developed the second 185 generation from the 185.1, which goes back to the original Traxx 145. The acoustic difference is mainly due to the modified converter system. The locomotives have an output of 5600 kW and reach a top speed of 140 km/h. Bombardier delivered an impressive 145 of the 393 units built internally as the F140 AC2 to leasing companies and private railways.
