BR65.10  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

The new locomotive program of the Deutsche Reichsbahn DR after WW II contained a tank locomotive with a drive wheel diameter of 1,600 mm and a top speed of 90 km/h. The 88 1'D2 'tank locomotives designed for commuter train service had an axle load of 18 t. The well-dimensioned boiler and the carefully developed engine provided practical pulling power and good acceleration. Since the DR converted various branch lines to an axle load of 20 t, various 65.10 were equipped with a compressed air bell more…

BR 52.80 DR  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

In the late 1950s German Deutsche Reichsbahn DR decided to modernize war-design freight locomotive BR 52. Around 200 samples received new boilers. The locos developed 1600 hp and reached a maximum speed of 80 km/h. With its axle load of only 16,3 tons the locos were used for freight and passenger trains even on branch lines.

BR 03 Reko DR  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

Due to the lack of heavy express train steam locomotives of the 01 series, the 03, which was less suitable for these services, had to step in in the 1950s and 1960s. Since the locomotives were still quite new in the 1950s and in good general condition, the DR decided not to reconstruct them. However, after the very new boilers of the 22 decommissioned (reconstructed BR 39, ex. pr. P10) were available from 1969, 52 old building 03s were equipped with these Reko boilers. At this point, the DR's more…

BR50.35-Reko-DR Oel  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

In the mid-1950s, the boilers of the BR50 standard locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn DR had reached the end of their service life due to the use in heavy freight traffic. Since the DR was unable to obtain replacements for its 50s, which were universally applicable with an axle load of just 15 t, in the foreseeable future, it was decided to reconstruct many locomotives with a boiler largely equivalent to that of the new BR 23 locomotive. From 1957, the DR reconstructed a total of 208 more…

BR05 003 DRG  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

In contrast to the 05 001 and 002, which were equipped with hard coal firing, the third locomotive of the series was ordered from Borsig in 1937 with a front driver's cab for a better view of the track. This involved coupling the locomotive with the smokebox end to the tender and equipping it with a coal dust firing system of the AEG type. The tests with the locomotive were less than satisfactory and so the DRG converted the machine into a conventional steam locomotive with hard coal firing and more…

BR 01.5 Rekolok DR  LokSound 5 European Sound files N XL L M4

After the Second World War, the Deutsche Reichsbahn DR had 65 Class 01 locomotives. At the end of the 1950s, the DR included the indispensable 01 in its reconstruction program and from 1961 onwards equipped a total of 35 machines with new boilers, new pumps and, for the most part, new cylinders. By 1966, the majority of the 2240 hp, 130 km/h 01.5s had also been fitted with oil main firing, which made the powerful and reliable three-coupler very popular with the staff. It was only after the more…
