In 1971 German Federal Railway DB ordered 42 sampels of triple dieselhydraulic railcar VT 614. A MAN diesel motor D 3650 HM 12 U in both of the cab cars developed 331 kW at 2150 rpm. The railcars reached a maximum speed of 140 km/h and were sold or scrapped until 2010.

The diesel locomotive V100 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) had been developed in the late 1950s to replace the Prussian steam locos BR 38.10-40, BR 55 and 78.
