Bulletin: MOB BCFe 4/4 7-20

Manufacturer: Bemo, Item number: 91814, Version: V6-R1

Starting in 1904, the Montreux-Berner Oberland-Bahn (MOB) purchased fourteen four-axle electric railcars from SIG, which were intended for use on the two newly opened routes Montbovon - Château-d'Oex - Gstaad and Gstaad - Zweisimmen. The meter-gauge railcars developed 192 kW and reached a top speed of 45 km/h, which was later increased to 50 km/h. In the course of their long service life, often only some of the vehicles were subjected to various conversions. For example, four vehicles received newly wound traction motors from 1925, which increased the power of the four traction motors to a total of 252 kW and apparatus for use in multiple traction. As a result of the class reform in 1956, the name was changed to ABDe 4/4. In the same year, the first regular retirement of a BCFe 4/4 took place, 50 years after commissioning, the last vehicles even had to quit service only at the end of the 1980s. With railcar 11, one of the MOB classics remained operational from the Blonay-Chamby Museum train.
