To increase frequency on the meter-gauge main network, the Rhaetian Railway RhB ordered 56 units of the four-car ABe 4/16 multiple unit from Stadler. The four electric traction motors installed in one of the end cars produce a total of 1400 kW and accelerate the trains to a design speed of 120 km/h. Up to four units can be coupled in regular operation. The main routes are Davos – Filisur and Chur – Ilanz – Disentis, which are traveled at a maximum speed of 100 hm/h. At 163 km/h, a Capricorn train holds the European record for meter-gauge locomotives.
