Based on the diesel-electric series DE 1024 with three-phase power transmission, MaK and Siemens developed the Di6 for the Norwegian State Railways NSB. The MaK 12M282 diesel engine developed 2650 kW at 1000 rpm and generated the power for the six traction motors. Since the locomotive with its top speed of 160 km/h was also to be used in heavy passenger train service, it was fitted with a train heating system. The twelve locomotives had various problems, two locomotives burned out. After Mak/Siemens were unable to rectify the defects, the NSB returned the locomotives. Siemens revised the eleven remaining locomotives and initially entered them as the ME 26 series in its own locomotive pool Dispolok and rented them out to various transport companies. In 2004, Siemens sold the machines to Vossloh, where the locomotives were reworked again, equipped with push-pull train controls and introduced as the DE 2700 series. Eight of the now reasonably reliable locomotives were leased to the Nord-Ostsee-Bahn NOB, the others to railways exclusively operating freight traffic. Hectorrail and HLG Holz-Logistik now operate most of the DE 2700 with five and three locomotives respectively and praise the traction and reliability of the six-axle locomotives.
Different starting processes can be selected with F1: 1x press button = warm start / press button 2x = false start / press button 3x = cold start
F5 enables the heavy load mode: The diesel notch is always one up compared with normal operation. If you want to jump two notches, simply set CV 104 to 170 (instead of 150).
F27 turns on the manual ntoching. Once F28 is on, you can use F28 to notch up and F29 to notch down. F27, F28, and F29 must be turned off to return to normal mode. If F27 is off and you press F28, the prime mover will run to full speed.
F17 will bring the locomotive to full stop.
