Bavarian Railway Ludwigs-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft bought famous „Adler“ steam locomotive at British manufacturer Robert Louis Stephenson. The loco with its single-axle drive delivered 41 HP and reached a maximum speed of 65 km/h.

18 201  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

In the 1950s Deutsche Reichsbahn DR of GDR needed a high-speed locomotive to test new passenger cars. The testing department of DR developed the 18 201 out of tank loco 61 002, a new boiler (out of “Reko” re-design programme) and the cylinders of a test loco. The loco develops 1590 HP and reaches a maximum speed of 176 km/h. 18 201 is the fastest operable steam locomotive in the world.

BR 78 / pr. T18  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

In 1912 Prussian State Railway ordered the first of 462 samples of the 4-6-4 saddle tank loco T18. The two-cylinder loco developed 1140 HP and reached a maximum speed of 100 km/h. The locos were used for passenger trains on main and branch lines and stayed in service until 1974.

BR93  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

The Prussian State Railway KPEV developed the 2-8-2 tender locos T14 and T14.1 (later BR 93.0-4 and 93.5-12) for regional passenger and freight service. The locos developed 1000 HP and reached a maximum speed of 65 and 70 km/h. The last locos quitted service at the German State Railways DB and DR in the late 1960s.

BR 03.10 DRG/DB  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

For fast passenger service German Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft DRG ordered 60 samples of three-cylinder steam loco 03.10. The locos developed 1790 HP and reached a maximum speed of 140 km/h. DRG-successors DB and DR equipped some locos with new boilers. The locos without this re-design feature were scrapped till 1957. During the same year DB equipped 25 samples with new boilers. The so-called Neubaukessel-03.10 developed 1870 HP and reached a maximum speed of 140 km/h. In 1966 the last more…

BR 212 (V100 DB)  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

The diesel locomotive V100 of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB) had been developed in the late 1950s to replace the Prussian steam locos BR 38.10-40, BR 55 and 78. The locos had 12 cylinder four stroke motors with 1100 HP of MAN, Mercedes-Benz or Maybach. A pair of those motors also worked in the famous V200. The DB found out that the motors were not strong enough for some service so the DB ordered a stronger version of the V100.10 (later numbered as BR 211) named V100.20 (later BR 212). The 212 had more…

BR 218  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

The classes (BR) 215 and 218 diesel locomotives of the Western German Railway (DB) are used in mixed service since 1968. 218 101 to 194, 218 242 to 288 were equipped with a 12 cylinder 4 stroke main Diesel from MAN that was later called MTU 12 V 956 TB10 that generates 2500 HP. The 2800 HP version of this motor is called MTU 12 V 956 TB11. In the late 1980s the exhaust system of BR 218 with the 12 V motor had been optimized. Since 1995 many of the 218 are equipped with motors called "MTU 12 V more…

V60 DR  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

The side rod equipped dieselhydraulic V60 (1968 BR 104 – 106, since 1992 BR 344 – 347) had been developed by VEB Lokomotivbau „Karl Marx“ for GDR state railway DR . The traction motors delivered 650 HP at 1500 rpm and enabled the loco to reach a maximum speed of 60 km/h. The non-turbocharged engine 12 KVD 21 SVW is quite similar to the motor of V180/V100.

FP7  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

US Universal Diesel EMD FP7 freight- and passenger train locomotive
. EMDs Diesel electric FP 7 had been produced because of troubles with steam generator equipped F3. So EMD lengthened the body for four feet to enable the locos to store more water. 16 cylinder 2-stroke prime mover 567C delivers 1500 HP and enables the loco to reach a maximum speed of 100 mph.
