E50 / BR 150  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

In 1957 German State Railway (DB) introduced it’s most powerful member of the so called “Einheits” electro locomotive family. The massive six axle six motor locomotives delivered 4500 kW and reached a maximum speed of 100 km/h. In 2003 last remaining 150 quitted service, but two locos are preserved in DB Museum.

In the late 1970s DR in German Democratic Republic ordered an multi-purpose electric loco. 646 units were produced. The four motor BR 243 (renumbered for BR 143 in 1994) reaches a maximum speed of 120 km/h. In Western Germany 143 successfully replaced worn out electrics BR 140/141 and 110 in commuter service.

In 1932 German Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft DRG received 1st of 174 samples of four-axle electric loco E44. The four motors delivered 2200 kW and enabled the E44 to reach a maximum speed of 90 km/h. The reliable locos rested in service at DB until 1985, last DR locos quitted service in 1991. For electric service on Bavarian mountain line Freilassing – Berchtesgaden DRG ordered eight samples of electric E44.5. ÖBB 1016 / 1116 Taurus  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

For traction of highspeed passenger trains as well as freight trains, Austrian state Railway OEBB received 332 samples of 1016 and 1116 electric locos. The four axle electric loco delivers 6400 kW and reaches a maximum speed of 230 km/h. For cross border service to Hungary also.

V180 / BR118  LokSound V4.0 European Soundfiles H0 N XL L M4

The V180 (Era IV BR 118, since 1990 BR 228) had been the first two motor diesel locomotive of the railway of GDR for medium main line service. The two turbo charged traction motors delivered 900 HP each and enabled the loco to reach a maximum speed of 120 km/h at 1500 RPM. For the use on branch lines the producer VEB Lokomotivbau “Karl Marx” developed a six axle version that shared the technical equipment with her four axle sister.

Manufacturer MaK had introduced its successful four axle freight locomotive in 1997. Till 2012 170 samples of the loco had been produced by MaK and its follower Vossloh. The diesel motor delivers around 1500 kW at 1800 rpm and reaches a maximum speed of 60 -100 km/h depending on gearing.

In 1971 German State Railway DB decided to improve acceleration of its diesel railcar units 601 by replacing diesel prime movers with Avco Lycoming TF 35 gas turbines. The four head end motor cars now deliver 1620 kW each and enable the 11-car train to reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h. For medium freight service Bombardier Transportation of Germany developed a four-axle electric loco BR 185.2. The sound of the second-generation Traxx-locos is slightly different of the first series because of electrical equipment. The locos develop 5600 kW (multi-current locos develop 4000 kW under DC catenary) and reach a maximum speed of 140 km/h.

In 1994 DB AG had ordered 145 total new four-axle electric loco for fast passenger service. The 6400 HP locos had been delivered between 1996 and 1999 and reach a maximum speed of 220 km/h. DB uses the locos also in freight service in the nights.
