Between 1984 and 1987, the Belgian State Railways SNCB/NMBS purchased 60 samples of the HLE 27 electric multi-purpose locomotive for the 3kV DC net. The four-axle locomotives produce 4380 kW and reach a top speed of 160 km/h and initially hauled almost exclusively inter-city trains. As part of a social project, locomotive 2711 broke the world record for the longest passenger train in the world at the time in 1991 with 70 passenger cars. In 2006, all locomotives were equipped with push-pull train control, and 19 machines have a central buffer coupling. In 2023, the construction train logistics provider Certus Rail Solutions acquired three locomotives. The remaining locomotives are useful for regional trains and freight trains, but are also occasionally allowed to haul IC trains.

In 1973, the Deutsche Bundesbahn DB received three electric multiple units for inter-city express transport. All 16 axles of the four-part vehicle were powered. As was usual at the time, the trains only had first class places. Due to the small number of units, various assemblies from the already proven ET 420 S-Bahn multiple unit were installed, which enabled a reasonably secure stock of spare parts for wearing parts. The output was 3840 kW, the maximum speed in passenger operation was 200 km/h, and the trains were structurally designed for 220 km/h. The installed tilting technology, which was dependent on the track curve, proved to be unusable and was soon shut down. With the introduction of second class in IC traffic, the ET 403 could no longer be used sensibly and they were only used in special traffic or for measurement trips. In 1982, the interior of the trains was significantly rebuilt and rented to Lufthansa as a replacement for short-haul flights between Frankfurt/Main and Düsseldorf. Depending on the space required, the trains were used individually or as a double unit, as before. After severe corrosion damage was discovered on the aluminum structure, the trains were shut down. TRI Train Rental, which is experienced in dealing with older vehicles, recently wanted to put a largely refurbished train back into operation from the cars, which were now in serious disrepair.

BR 151 For around 40 years the Class BR 151 represented the most important type for traction of fast and heavy freight trains for the State Railway of Federal Republic of Germany (DB). At the time of origin in the early 1970s the six axle loco were faster then any more powerful German loco. But it had also more traction power then any faster one. Krupp had designed the outer shape, the bogies were similar to the famous fast train loco BR 103. Traction motors WB 372-22 had been advanced types of the Einheitslok family. An extraordinary feature of BR 151 is the equipment for push-pull service with passenger trains. With its power of 8894 hp and a maximum speed of 120 km/h the loco had also been used in passenger service on relations with steep rises on schedule till the 1990s. For heavy drag service with 5400 ton coal trains some of the BR 151 is equipped with an automatic coupler. For the traction of those kind of trains the locos are used in consists. Even though the BR 151 had a hard life and many were scrapped yet, some few locos got a general inspection in 2010 to run for 8 years.

In order to be able to cope better with the steadily increasing flow of passengers and goods over the Gotthard after the Second World War, the Swiss Federal Railways SBB procured a total of 120 units of the six-axle electric locomotive Ae 6/6 from 1952. The locomotives, which were equipped with hollow-shaft drives, were fitted with the N 28 i high-voltage switchgear, which was state-of-the-art at the time and was also suitable for difficult hill climbs. The elegant locomotives were also fitted with the electric brakes, which are indispensable for ramp service. With a top speed of 125 km/h, the locomotive was increasingly used in flat area from the 1980s, since the even more powerful Re 6/6 and Re 460 had meanwhile taken over service on the Gotthard. Nevertheless, the Ae 6/6, some of which were fitted with revised driver's cabs and repainted for SBB Cargo in the late 1990s, remained in regular service until the 2010s.

In the late 1950s the narrow gauge Rhetian Railway (RhB) of Switzerland recommended stronger locos for haevy freight and passenger service. After a pre-series of two six axle locos (#701 and #702) the RhB ordered a series of five more locos (#703 - #707) that show differences in front design. Technical equipment of the locos is the same. The end trucks are interchangeable with those of four axle Ge 4/4 I. The locos develop 2398 HP and reach a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Even after around 50 years the RhB still uses the locos in daily service.

Between 1952 and 1957, the Swedish State Railways SJ procured a total of 93 examples of the Da for use in front of passenger and freight trains. The rod-driven three-coupler with jackshaft is based on the proven D series. After a few years of operation, the spoked wheels were replaced by rubber-sprung models, which significantly improved handling up to higher speeds. In operation, the top speed of the 1840 kW 1'C1' locomotives was limited to 100 km/h. From 1990, the reliable machines began to be phased out.

In 1957, the BB9200 was the first version of a family of locomotives from the French state railways SNCF, which shared the box body but had different gearboxes and equipment for different power systems. The 92 examples of the BB9200 express train locomotive for the 15kV direct current network are accelerated to a maximum speed of 160 km/h by four CEM 931B GLM electric motors with a combined output of 4100 kW. Since the locomotives were also to be used on ramps, the SNCF ordered 30 units with an electrical resistance brake. Six locomotives were equipped with bogies for 200 km/h and pulled the famous "Capitole" express train. In the 1970s, six of the former Capitole machines received push-pull control and painted them in the newly introduced Corail livery in order to cover the supra-regional push-pull trains, for which a total of 28 control cars had been procured from 1975. As late as the 1990s, four of the already very old locomotives were equipped with equipment for transporting heavy double-decker commuter trains and were designated BB9700 from then on. Other locomotives also hauled freight trains in later years. In 2010, the SNCF retired the last examples.
Based on the DC locomotive BB9200, the French state railway SNCF had a total of 62 examples of the express train locomotive BB16000 built for the 25kV 50Hz AC network from 1958. The four-axle vehicles with a power of 4420 kW and a speed of 160 km/h were mainly used in the North and East regions. The 15 machines that were retrofitted with the TDM train control system were listed as the BB16100 series. In 1958, the French state railway SNCF had four test locomotives of the BB20100 series built by SLM Winterthur as two-system AC versions of the BB9200 DC locomotive with different technical equipment. BB20101 and 102 received four individual motors, while the BB20103 and 104 tested the monomoteur concept with only one traction motor per bogie, which was later implemented in many other series. The four locomotives delivered between 3340 and 3860 kW in the 25kV 50Hz and 3060 and 3210 kW in the 15kV 16 2/3 Hz system. The maximum speed was a uniform 160 km/h. The locomotives were mainly used in cross-border traffic to Switzerland. After the experience with the BB16000 poly tension series and the BB20005 prototypes, the French state railway SNCF had a total of 96 examples of the two-system locomotives BB25100, 25150, and 25200 built from 1967. The four Jeumont TO 136/8 electric motors have a uniform output of 4420 kW at 25 kV AC and 3650 at 1.5 kV DC. The first two types were equipped with gears for a top speed of 130 km/h, designed for pulling heavy passenger trains. The reason for the difference in the designation was the slightly different technical equipment due to the outfitter. Light express trains fell within the scope of the 160 km/h fast BB 25200, of which 50 examples were built. The SNCF retrofitted 14 units with facilities for push-pull operation.

For suburban traffic in Stuttgart, the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft DRG initially purchased 21 units of the ET65 electric multiple unit from 1933. The four-axle vehicles with a top speed of 85 km/h initially drove as firmly coupled to the control car. Due to the increased space requirement, the sets in the middle of the train were supplemented by non-powered double wagons. Another, technically unchanged series of 23 powered rail cars and control cars followed in 1938. In the 1960s, the DB could not do without the railcars and modernized the interior and end faces. It was not until 1977 that the last copies, now referred to as 465, were retired.
