ÖBB 2043 N XL L M4

Austrian standard Diesel locomotive OEBB 2043

ÖBB 2048 N XL L M4

In 1991, the Austrian government decided to improve the passenger service on branch lines. The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) were unable to meet the increased demand for locomotives, which is why they were able to quickly purchase 15 examples of BR 211s that were no longer needed by the DB in order to free up ÖBB locomotives for passenger trains. The worn-out MTU diesel engines needed to be replaced, while the Voith transmissions, which were considered to be reliable, were retained in some more…

ÖBB 2050 N XL L M4

In 1958 and 1962 Austrian ÖBB received 18 samples of EMD-licensed version of Class G12 built by German manufacturer Henschel. The 12 cylinder 2-stroke diesel electric loco delivers 1520 HP at 835 RPM. ÖBB had used the four axle locos for freight and passenger service till 2004.

ÖBB 2070 N XL L M4

At the beginning of the 2000s, the Austrian Federal Railways ÖBB ordered 90 class 2070 shunting locomotives, nick-named Hector, from German Vossloh. The 12-cylinder diesel engine from Caterpillar develop 738 kW at 2100 rpm. The top speed is 100 km/h. These locomotives, which MaK calls Type G 800 BB, form the basis of the fourth type of the manufacturer. The locomotives are used in heavy shunting operations and pull regional freight trains.

ÖBB 5047 N XL L M4

From 1987, the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) purchased 100 units of the diesel-hydraulic railcar 5047. The one-piece vehicle manufactured by the Jenbacher works is based on the German 627, but the MTU twelve-cylinder engine 12V183TC12 has a significantly higher output of 419 kW thanks to charge air cooling. The maximum speed is 120 km/h.

PKP SM42 / SP42 N XL L M4

Between 1963 and 1992 Polish manufacturer Fablok built 1822 samples of hood style diesel electric freight loco SM 42. Additional 268 units (SP42) were ordered with steam heating boiler for passenger train service. The eight cylinder prime mover develops 800 HP and enables the loco to reach a maximum speed of 90 km/h.

RENFE 333/D333 N XL L M4

Between 1974 and 1976, the Spanish RENFE procured a total of 93 D333 diesel locomotives to run heavy express trains on non-electrified main routes. The diesel-electric locomotive, manufactured by NoHAB under an EMD license, has an output of 2500 kW and originally reached a maximum speed of 146 km/h. The EMD sixteen-cylinder diesel prime mover generated the energy for the six electric traction motors. In the 1990s, the locomotives were adapted to various fields of application and some of them more…

RhB Gmf 4/4 242-243 N XL L M4

For traction of trains for construction areas Swiss Rhetian Railway (RhB) ordered two diesel electric Gmf 4/4 242 and 243 at German manufacturer Kaelble-Gmeinder. The four axle locos are driven by a Caterpillar 12 cylinder prime mover 3412 DI-TA and reach a maximum speed of 60 km/h.

RhB Schöma Tm2/2 111-114 N XL L M4

To modernize the shunting operation, the Rhaetian Railway RhB ordered ten diesel-hydraulic shunting tractors from the German manufacturer Schöma. The vehicles are very similar to the 420 CT 4H type purchased from RACO from 1991. The RhB put the Schöma tractors into operation between 2001 and 2004 as the Tm 2/2 with track numbers 111 to 120. The first four two-axle vehicles designated by the manufacturer as type DFL-250 DCL are powered by a six-cylinder N14 Cummins diesel engine with an more…

RhB Schöma Tm2/2 115-120 N XL L M4

To modernize the shunting operation, the Rhaetian Railway RhB ordered ten diesel-hydraulic shunting tractors from the German manufacturer Schöma. The vehicles are very similar to the 420 CT 4H type purchased from RACO from 1991. The second series, comprising six vehicles, was put into operation by the RhB with track numbers 115-120. The two-axle vehicles are powered by a six-cylinder Cummins QSX diesel engine with an impressive 336 kW, which transfers its power to a three-speed converter more…
