BR151 Electric loco E18 had been the most important electric loco for passenger service of former Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG). Between 1935 and 1940 53 samples of E18 had been built. The locos more…
In the late 1930s the German DRG wanted to increase the weight of freight trains. Therefor six axle E94 had been developed. During WWII 146 samples were built. The six motor locos develop 3300 kW and reach a maximum speed of 90 km/h. After the war 44 locos were overtaken by Austrian Railway OEBB, another 23 were refitted by DR of German Democratic Republic of Germany. After building some new locos till 1956 the DB used 124 locos for heavy freight service. Sometimes the locos could be seen also more…

In 1941, the Schöllenenbahn and the Furka-Oberalp-Bahn in Switzerland procured five railcars, initially designated as BCFhe 2/4. These were designed for the 11kV, 16 2/3Hz AC system and featured appropriate equipment for the steep cogwheel sections. The four companies rebuilt and renamed the railcars several times until they operated as BDeh 2/4 from 1978. In adhesion mode, the 430 kW powered railcars reached 55 km/h and in rack mode 30 km/h. For gear and adhesion operation, the vehicles have more…
To increase frequency on the meter-gauge main network, the Rhaetian Railway RhB ordered 56 units of the four-car ABe 4/16 multiple unit from Stadler. The four electric traction motors installed in one of the end cars produce a total of 1400 kW and accelerate the trains to a design speed of 120 km/h. Up to four units can be coupled in regular operation. The main routes are Davos – Filisur and Chur – Ilanz – Disentis, which are traveled at a maximum speed of 100 hm/h. At 163 km/h, a Capricorn more…
In 2012 swiss Rhetian Railway RhB re-designed two of their electric railcars ABe 4/4 II for service railcars with repair shop interior. The two cars were re-numbered for Xe 232 01 and Xe 272 01. The four motor units reach a maximum speed of 65 km/h.
In 2010, a new era started with the year´s summer timetable among RhB´s rolling stock: the first 15 copies of the three-part “Allegra” dual-voltage railcars, ordered from Stadler, replaced some of the locomotives which had seen better days.
The powerful and air-conditioned ABe 4/8 3501-3515 can be either used on the main line´s AC system or the DC-powered “Bernina” line.
With further procurements, the operational concept of locomotive-drawn trains has changed with the exception of the Albula more…
Since nearly 50 years Swiss narrow gauged Rhaetian Railway (RhB) uses their four axle electric railcars ABe 4/4 II. Four traction motors deliver 940 HP and enables the railcars to reach a maximum speed of 65 km/h. Four of the nine cars are still in use, two of them can be seen daily with nearly any kind of train.
